Across The Bridge (film)
''Across the Bridge'' is a 1957 British thriller film directed by Ken Annakin and starring Rod Steiger, David Knight and Bernard Lee. It is based on the 1938 short story " Across the Bridge" by Graham Greene. According to his obituary, it was director Annakin's favourite film. Plot Carl Schaffner (Rod Steiger) is a widowed British businessman, born in Germany, who flees to Mexico with the police hot on his heels after stealing company funds. He has a fortune stashed in a Mexican bank to keep it out of reach of the British authorities. While traveling by train, Schaffner drugs and switches identities with fellow train passenger Paul Scarff (Bill Nagy), who looks like him and has a Mexican passport. He throws Scarff off the train, injuring Scarff. As part of the ruse, Carl is forced to take possession of Scarff's dog. Ken Annakin
Kenneth Cooper Annakin, Order of the British Empire, OBE (10 August 1914 – 22 April 2009) was an England, English film director. His career spanned half a century, beginning in the early 1940s and ending in 2002, and in the 1960s he was noticed by critics with large-scale adventure epic and comedies films, like ''Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines'', ''Battle of the Bulge (1965 film), Battle of the Bulge'', ''The Biggest Bundle of Them All'' and ''Monte Carlo or Bust!''. During his career, Annakin directed nearly 50 pictures. Biography Annakin was born in and grew up in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire where he attended the local Beverley Grammar School, grammar school. Ingeborg Von Kusserow
Ingeborg von Kusserow (28 January 1919 – 14 April 2014) was a German film actress. Biography Kusserow was born in Wollstein, Province of Posen, Germany (today Wolsztyn, Poland). She starred in Nazi propaganda films during the Third Reich, which she wrote about in a 1949 memoir ''I Was Hitler's Mickey Mouse''. Kusserow married Percy Graf Welsburg in November 1941; they hoped to get away to Switzerland and Italy but in fact had to remain in Berlin throughout the war, which she describes in a 1948 memoir ''Enough, no More''. They finally emigrated to Britain in 1947 and lived in St John's Wood, London and she restarted her acting career, usually appearing as Ingeborg Wells. Kusserow retired in 1960 and divorced Welsburg, but married again in 1968 to Kenneth Slingsby-Fahn (1913–2007), a retired RAF officer.
