''Acanthoscurria'' is a genus of tarantulas that was first described by Anton Ausserer in 1871.They are found throughout South America including the countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela, plus into the Windward Islands West Indies, . Diagnosis The main way they can be distinguished based on an organ found on the posterior trochanter of the pedipalp, and anterior trochanter of leg used for stridulating. But they can also be distinguished based on the palpal bulb and the tibial apophysis morphology. Acanthoscurria Insubtilis
''Acanthoscurria insubtilis'' also known as the Bolivian black velvet tarantula, is a spider which was first described by Eugène Simon in 1892. It is found in Bolivia some reports also stating in Brazil, though it is mainly in the Bolivian Rainforests. Description Males have a dark brown or black coloration, with pinkish hairs on the opisthosoma, carapace and legs. Females own this same coloration, though the carapace and opisthosoma are lighter. It resembles '' Acanthoscurria theraphosoides'' as the sexual organs are quite similar in structure, though it can be easily separated from it, as it owns a dark patch on the opisthosoma. Habitat They are mainly found n the Bolivian Rainforests, so I will be basing this section on the Carrasco National Park in Bolivia. Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão (July 17, 1886 – December 14, 1948) was a Brazilian zoologist who is considered the founder of Arachnology in South America, publishing 198 papers on the taxonomy of Arachnida. He was also involved with education, writing high-school textbooks, and contributed to biogeography, with essays on the distribution of Arachnida in the South American continent. Tord Tamerlan Teodor Thorell (3 May 1830 – 22 December 1901) was a Sweden, Swedish arachnologist. Thorell studied spiders with Giacomo Doria at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale de Genoa. He corresponded with other arachnologists, such as Octavius Pickard-Cambridge, Eugène Simon and Thomas Workman (entomologist), Thomas Workman. Palpal Bulb
The two palpal bulbs – also known as palpal organs and genital bulbs – are the copulatory organs of a male spider. They are borne on the last segment of the pedipalps (the front "limbs" of a spider), giving the spider an appearance often described as like wearing boxing gloves. The palpal bulb does not actually produce sperm, being used only to transfer it to the female. Palpal bulbs are only fully developed in adult male spiders and are not completely visible until after the final moult. In the majority of species of spider, the bulbs have complex shapes and are important in identification. Structure The palpal bulb of a mature male spider is borne on the last segment of the pedipalp. This segment usually has touch-sensitive hairs (setae) with nerves leading to them.
