Abuse Me (Silverchair Song)
"Abuse Me" is a song by the Australian rock band Silverchair. It was released as the second single from their 1997 album, ''Freak Show''. In the United States, Sony chose "Abuse Me" as the first single from ''Freak Show'' despite protests by the band's manager. "Freak" was the Australian lead single and the preferred lead single from the album. It was also released on their '' The Best of Volume 1''. The single peaked at number four on both the '' Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, making it their second biggest hit in the United States (after " Tomorrow"). The single contained the B-side "Undecided", (not to be confused with "Undecided" from ''Frogstomp'') a Masters Apprentices cover, which featured Deniz Tek of Radio Birdman playing lead guitar. Also included on the single was a remix of "Freak", produced by Paul Mac, marking the first time that Daniel Johns and Paul Mac worked together. Silverchair were an Australian rock band, which formed in 1992 as Innocent Criminals in Newcastle, New South Wales, with Ben Gillies on drums, Daniel Johns on vocals and guitars, and Chris Joannou on bass guitar. The group got their big break in mid-1994 when they won a national demo competition conducted by SBS TV show ''Nomad'' and ABC radio station Triple J. The band was signed by Murmur and were successful in Australia and internationally. Silverchair have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Silverchair have won more ARIA Music Awards than any other artist in history, earning 21 wins from 49 nominations. They also received six APRA Awards, with Johns winning three songwriting awards in 2008. The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. Surfin' Bird
"Surfin' Bird" is a song performed by American surf rock band The Trashmen, containing the repetitive lyric "the bird is the word". It has been covered many times. It is a combination of two R&B hits by The Rivingtons: " Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" and "The Bird's the Word". The song was released as a single in 1963 and reached No. 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The Trashmen also recorded an album named after the track, released two months later. History The Rivingtons followed up their 1963 ''Billboard'' Hot 100 hit " Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" with the similar "The Bird's the Word" in 1963. The Trashmen had not heard this version but saw a band called the Sorensen Brothers playing it. They decided to play the song that night at their own gig. Paul Francis McDermott (born 17 September 1965), who performs as Paul Mac, is an Australian electropop musician, singer-songwriter, producer and music re-mixer. He was classically trained at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Mac has formed various bands including Smash Mac Mac (1986–88), The Lab (1989–1998), Itch-E and Scratch-E (1991–present), Boo Boo Mace & Nutcase (1996–98), and The Dissociatives (2003–2005). Mac has released two solo albums, ''3000 Feet High'' (6 August 2001) and ''Panic Room'' (17 October 2005) – both appeared in the top 40 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Radio Birdman
Radio Birdman is an Australian punk rock band formed by Deniz Tek and Rob Younger in Sydney in 1974. The group influenced the work of many successful, mainstream bands, and are now considered instrumental in Australia's musical growth. History Origins Deniz Tek and Rob Younger formed Radio Birdman in mid-1974 in Sydney, having recently left their bands TV Jones and the Rats respectively. The pair sought to begin a band that would challenge the commercial mainstream and be completely uncompromising. Deniz Tek (born November 10, 1952) is a Turkish-American singer, guitarist and songwriter and a founding member of Australian rock group Radio Birdman. He has played in many of the underground rock bands of the 1970s including Australian bands The Visitors (Australian band), The Visitors, and New Race but is most known for exerting his burning Detroit style guitar influence over the punk rock genre in Australia. Tek Turkish origin but was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States of America, United States. ''Frogstomp'' is the debut studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair. It was released on 27 March 1995, when the band members were only 15 years of age, by record label Murmur. The album features the band's commercially most successful single, " Tomorrow". Recording ''Frogstomp'' was recorded in nine days. When asked if the record was made live in the studio, singer and guitarist Daniel Johns said: Yeah, that's the thing that I do really like about that album – it sounds exactly like we sounded. There was no big American producer calling the shots behind the desk and telling us to do this, this and this.
