Abracadabra (Claire Hamill Album)
''Abracadabra'' is the fourth album by English singer-songwriter Claire Hamill, released in 1975. It was more more rocky as a result, probably, of being influenced by the bands she was supporting on tour, such as King Crimson and Traffic. She used her American band for the backing tracks and supplemented them with guitarist Phil Palmer, Ray Davies's nephew. Claire Hamill
Josephine Claire Hamill (born 4 August 1954) is an English singer-songwriter. In addition to her solo career, she has collaborated with Wishbone Ash and Yes's Steve Howe. Life and career Claire Hamill was born in Port Clarence, County Durham. She has been active in the music business since age 17. In 1971, she was launched as one of Britain's first female singer-songwriters and compared by several commentators to Joni Mitchell. Shortly following the release of her debut album, '' One House Left Standing'', Hamill went on her first UK tour, supporting John Martyn. She performed at the Concert 10 festival in the United States July 1972 before a crowd of 200,000. By 1973, she had toured the United States with Procol Harum and Jethro Tull, and returned to Britain to record her next album, ''October'', at Manor Studio in Oxfordshire. Ian Anderson
Ian Scott Anderson (born 10 August 1947) is a British musician, singer and songwriter best known for his work as the lead vocalist, flautist, acoustic guitarist and leader of the British rock band Jethro Tull. He is a multi-instrumentalist who, in addition to flute and acoustic guitar, plays keyboards, electric guitar, bass guitar, bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone, harmonica and a variety of whistles. Café Society (British Band)
Café Society were a British band who were active in the mid-1970s. Based on the trio of Tom Robinson, Hereward Kaye and Raphael "Ray" Doyle, they recorded one self-titled album on the Konk Records, Konk record label, produced by Ray Davies of the Kinks. History The band came together in London in 1973, although the three original members had known each other for several years, first meeting in Kaye's home town of Middlesbrough. They all sang, played guitar, and wrote songs. When living in London, they began performing together in a folk rock style as "Hereward & Friends" at clubs including Bunjies, and were mentored by Alexis Korner. After adopting their new name of Café Society, they won a residency at the Troubadour Club where they were heard by Ray Davies. Doreen Chanter
Doreen Chanter is a British singer best known as a member of the Chanter Sisters, and for her work as a backing vocalist and session vocalist, primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. Chanter Sisters Chanter started as a member of a group called the Chanters in 1967 with her sister Irene Chanter and her five brothers, releasing four singles which failed to chart. In 1968, the Chanter sisters became a duo initially known as Birds of a Feather. The duo released four singles between 1967 and 1972 but none of them achieved chart success. Vicki Brown
Vicki Brown (23 August 1940 – 16 June 1991) was an English pop, rock and contemporary classical singer. She was a member of both The Vernons Girls and The Breakaways and was the first wife of fellow singer and musician Joe Brown and mother of the singer Sam Brown. Biography Brown was born Victoria Mary Haseman, on 23 August 1940 in Liverpool, England. She married Joe Brown and, after leaving the Breakaways, remained a prolific session singer under the name Vicki Brown. The Browns had two children, Sam and Pete Brown; the former a successful singer-songwriter, the latter a record producer. In 1972, Joe Brown formed Brown's Home Brew, which played rock and roll, country and gospel music and featured his wife in the line-up. Melvyn Desmond Collins (born 5 September 1947, Isle of Man) is a British saxophonist, flautist and session musician. Collins has played in several progressive rock groups, having been a member of King Crimson on two occasions (the first from 1970 to 1972 and the second from 2013 to the present day) and having played with Camel, the Alan Parsons Project, Roger Waters and Chris Squire. Phillip David Chen (21 October 1946 – 14 December 2021) was a Jamaican bassist. He was one of England's most utilized session bassists during the 1970s and 1980s, including Jeff Beck, and the Rod Stewart band from 1977 to 1980, but is probably best known for his later work with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of the Doors. "Celluloid Heroes" is a song performed by The Kinks and written by their lead vocalist and principal songwriter, Ray Davies. It debuted on their 1972 album ''Everybody's in Show-Biz''. The song names several famous actors of 20th century film, and also mentions Los Angeles's Hollywood Boulevard, alluding to its Hollywood Walk of Fame. Simon Frederick St George Kirke (born 28 July 1949) is an English rock drummer best known as a member of Free and Bad Company. He has been the only continuous member of Bad Company since their inception. Life and career Kirke was born in Lambeth, South London, the son of Olive May ( Pollard) and Vivian Percy Kirke, who married in 1948. Simon's father was from a junior branch of a family of Nottinghamshire landed gentry, and descended on his mother's side from the Gibson-Craig baronets.
