Arne Paasche Aasen
Arne Paasche Aasen (18 June 1901 – 1 November 1978) was a Norwegian politician, journalist and poet, who worked for the labour movement. He was born in Steinkjer as a son of teacher and politician Augusta Aasen, née Paasche (1878–1920) and typographer Edolf Aasen (1877–1969). The family soon moved to Kristiania. In 1927 he married Valborg "Vaps" Moe (1901–1994). His sister was married to Paul Gauguin for some years. He joined the Norwegian Labour Party at an early age. His mother was a central figure here before her early death. Aasen was also a member of the Left Communist Youth League and was present at the congress of 24 April 1927 when the Left Communist Youth League was merged with the Socialist Youth League to found the Workers' Youth League. His poetic debut came in 1921 with the collection ''Sigd og hammer'' ("Sickle and Hammer"), where he hailed the revolution and Vladimir Lenin. Augusta Aasen
Augusta Aasen, née Paasche (19 May 1878 – 3 August 1920) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She was born in Osen as a daughter of Fredrik Christian Paasche and Pauline Sivertsdatter Vaagen. Together with book printer Edolf Aasen (1877–1969) she had the son Arne Paasche Aasen, a well-known poet. She hailed from Steinkjer, and was a member of Trondhjem city council from 1908 to 1911. She was the first female council member in Norway's third largest city. She then moved to Kristiania and was a secretary in Norges Socialdemokratiske Ungdomsforbund from 1912 to 1914. She also worked in the newspaper '' Direkte Aktion''. Politically, she was a board member of Kristiania Labour Party, and a deputy board member of the central board. Ivar Andreas Aasen (; 5 August 1813 – 23 September 1896) was a Norwegian philologist, lexicographer, playwright, and poet. He is best known for having assembled one of the two official written versions of the Norwegian language, Nynorsk, from various dialects. Background He was born as Iver Andreas Aasen at Åsen in Ørsta (then Ørsten), in the district of Sunnmøre, on the west coast of Norway. His father, a peasant with a small farm, Ivar Jonsson, died in 1826. The younger Ivar was brought up to farmwork, but he assiduously cultivated all his leisure in reading. John Aasen
John Aasen (March 5, 1890 – August 1, 1938) was an American silent film actor and sideshow performer who was one of the tallest actors in history. Early life Aasen was born on March 5, 1890, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His mother, Kristi (Danielsen) from Rollag in Numedal, was an extremely tall Norwegian woman of around 2.20 m (almost 7 ft 3 inches) in height (latest information from September 2008, sets her height to 188 cm, almost 6 ft 2 inches). It is not certain who his father was, but according to Aasen's sister Evelyn (who died in 1988), his father was Alfred Aasen. Liv Aasen (21 September 1928 – 21 August 2005) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. Aasen was born in Bergen. She was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Sør-Trøndelag in 1969, and was re-elected on four occasions, serving twenty years. Mats André Zuccarello Aasen (born 1 September 1987) is a Norwegian professional ice hockey winger for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the New York Rangers and Dallas Stars. Prior to joining the NHL, Zuccarello previously played for Modo Hockey in the Swedish Elite League. In 2010, he won the Guldhjälmen (Golden Helmet), awarded annually to the most valuable player in the Swedish Hockey League. He is regarded as one of the best Norwegian players to play in the NHL. Nils Waltersen Aasen
Nils Waltersen Aasen (30 March 1878 – 27 December 1925) was a Norwegian arms inventor. He has been credited with having developed the modern hand grenade and land mine just prior to World War I. Biography Aasen was born at Stadsbygd in Rissa, Norway. He graduated in 1903 from the Fortress-Artillery School for Non-Commissioned Officers () at Oscarsborg Fortress. He started his experiments developing a hand grenade while serving as a sergeant at Oscarsborg. He was encouraged in his work by base commander and former defense minister Hans Georg Stang. However, the Norwegian Department of Defense showed little interest in Aasen's prototype. He then formed Aasen's Grenade Company (''Det Aasenske Granatkompani'') in Copenhagen, Denmark, which produced and exported of his grenade throughout Europe. Otto Aasen
Otto Aasen (1 January 1894 – 20 October 1983) was a Norwegian Nordic skier. He was born in Fåberg, but moved to Rjukan in 1916. He spent his working career at Norsk Hydro in Rjukan from 1916 to 1964. He won the Nordic combined at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1917 and 1918. For his Nordic combined victories, Aasen shared the Holmenkollen medal in 1919 with Thorleif Haug. Aasen also competed in ski jumping, and won a silver medal in the individual large hill at the 1926 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti. Marianne Aasen (born 21 February 1967) is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She was born in Bergen, but grew up in Moss. She graduated with a cand.polit. degree in 1993 from the University of Oslo. She worked as a journalist in ''Arbeiderbladet'' from 1991 to 1993 and Avisenes Nyhetsbyrå from 1993 to 1995. Ivar Aasen-sambandet (The Ivar Aasen Union) is an umbrella organization of associations and individuals promoting the use of the Høgnorsk variant of the Norwegian language. History The union was founded in 1965 as a response to the ''samnorsk'' policy (aiming to merge the two languages Nynorsk and Bokmål) prevailing with Noregs Mållag (Norwegian Language Union). In 2002, Norway officially abandoned the samnorsk policy, like the majority of Noregs Mållag did during the 1990s. This decade also saw the revitalization of the Høgnorsk movement, which took place inside of ''Noregs Mållag'' as well.
