''A Shadow of All Night Falling'' is a 1979 fantasy novel by Glen Cook. Plot summary Reception Greg Costikyan reviewed ''A Shadow of All Night Falling'' in '' Ares Magazine'' #2 and commented that "Cook has managed to avoid most of the traps into which fantasy writers tend to fall. His language, while striking, is not awkwardly archaic; he communicates some of the awesomeness that is the province of epic fantasy without seeming silly or mundane; his magic is believable and not trivial. He also manages to create sympathetic characters – a difficult task in epic fantasy – and his prose is clear and well-executed. ''A Shadow of All Night Falling'' is by no means a classic, but it shows great promise." Glen Charles Cook (born July 9, 1944) is an American writer of fantasy and science fiction, known for ''The Black Company'' and ''Garrett P.I.'' fantasy series. Berkley Books is an imprint of the Penguin Group. History Berkley Books began as an independent company in 1955. It was founded as "Chic News Company" by Charles Byrne and Frederick Klein, who had worked for Avon; they quickly renamed it Berkley Publishing Co. Greg Costikyan
Greg Costikyan (born July 22, 1959, in New York City), sometimes known under the pseudonym "Designer X", is an American game designer and science fiction writer. Costikyan's career spans nearly all extant genres of gaming, including: hex-based wargames, role-playing games, boardgames, card games, computer games, online games and mobile games. Several of his games have won Origins Awards. He co-founded Manifesto Games, now out of business, with Johnny Wilson in 2005. Personal life and education Greg Costikyan is the son of attorney and politician Edward N. and Frances (Holmgren) Costikyan. He and Warren Spector, a game designer, were friends since high school. ''Ares'' was an American science fiction wargame magazine published by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI), and then TSR, Inc., between 1980 and 1984. In addition to the articles, each issue contained a wargame, complete with a foldout stiff paper map, a set of cardboard counters, and the rules. Publication history Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) began publishing ''Ares'' in 1980 as a science-fiction companion to ''Strategy & Tactics''.''Ares'' magazine was similar to ''Strategy & Tactics'', with a game every issue, but it focused on science-fiction and fantasy. ''Magia i Miecz'' (Polish language, Polish for: ''Magic and Sword'') was the first Role-playing game, RPG-oriented magazine in Poland. Started in 1993, it ceased publishing in 2002 after 103 issues. The publisher was Wydawnictwo MAG. Tomasz Kołodziejczak served as the editor of the magazine. On 18 March 2014 Kuźnia Gier publishing house announced about acquiring the rights to title and reactivating the magazine and hold a crowdfunding project for restarting the magazine. The magazine published only six issues before going defunct in 2018.
