''A Real Labour of Love'' is the third studio album by UB40 featuring Ali, Astro and Mickey. It peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart, making it the highest-charting UB40 album since '' Promises and Lies'', which reached number-one in 1993. Background In 2008, Ali Campbell unceremoniously quit UB40 after 30 years as their lead singer; he was soon followed by founding member, keyboardist Mickey Virtue. Trumpeter and toaster Astro left the band in 2013. In August 2014, Campbell announced that the trio had reunited to record a new album, ''Silhouette'', under the name "The Legendary Voice of UB40 Ali Campbell reunited with Astro & Mickey". UB40
UB40 are an English reggae and pop band, formed in December 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, and has also achieved considerable international success. They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times, and in 1984 were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group. UB40 have sold over 70 million records worldwide. Sleng Teng is the name given to one of the first fully computerized riddims, influential in Jamaican music and beyond. The riddim, which was the result of work by Noel Davey, Ian "Wayne" Smith, and Lloyd "King Jammy" James, was first released with Wayne's vocals under the title "Under Mi Sleng Teng" in early 1985. Composition In mid-1984 Jamaican musician George "Buddy" Haye went on tour to the United States with the Wailing Souls. Before he left Jamaica, Buddy had promised a young musician named Noel Davey that he would buy a synthesizer while in the United States and bring it back to him. Calvin George Scott (born 3 September 1959), better known as Cocoa Tea, is a Jamaican reggae singer and songwriter. Biography Born in Rocky Point, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, Cocoa Tea was popular in Jamaica from 1985, but has become successful worldwide since the 1990s. One of his most famous songs is " Rikers Island", which was later put into a ragga version by Nardo Ranks entitled "Me No Like Rikers Island" (featured on ''Dancehall Reggaespanol'') which was released the same year as the original "Rikers Island". Ronald Norman Miller (October 5, 1932 – July 23, 2007) was an American popular songwriter and record producer who wrote for Motown artists in the 1960s and 1970s and attained many Top 10 hits. Jeb Loy Nichols is an American-born singer, songwriter, and musician, who is based in Wales. His music combines elements of soul, Country music, country, Folk music, folk, reggae and blues. Pablo Gad is a British Roots reggae singer and songwriter. He is considered one of the UK's most militant and outspoken vocalists in roots reggae music. Biography Pablo Gad was born in Jamaica and came to live in the United Kingdom in 1974. With a voice reminiscent of singer Fred Locks, Gad began recording in the late 1970s. His first singles were "International Dread" and "Kunta Kinte" on the Caribbean label in 1977. In 1978 Gad emerged with the classic "Bloodsuckers" on the Burning Sounds label.
