George Nichols (actor)
George Nichols, sometimes credited in films as George O. Nicholls (October 28, 1864 – September 20, 1927), was an American actor and film director. He is perhaps best remembered for his work at Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios. Nichols was born in Rockford, Illinois. He made 221 known film appearances from 1908 up to his death in 1927. He also directed 103 films between 1911 and 1916. Along with Henry "Pathe" Lehrman, Nichols became an arch-enemy of Charlie Chaplin very early on in Chaplin's film career, as Chaplin was dissatisfied with Nichols' way of directing and comic ideas while both worked at Keystone in 1914. In his autobiography, Chaplin recalled a dispute between himself and Nichols during the shooting of a film in which Chaplin appeared. Virginia Kirtley
Virginia Kirtley (born Virginia M. Saffell; November 11, 1888 – August 19, 1956) was an American film actress and writer during the silent era. She appeared in more than 50 films in the 1910s and 1920s. Kirtley was born Virginia M. Saffell in Bowling Green, Missouri, but went on to live with her family in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She took her screen surname from her mother's maiden name. At age 10 she performed with the Burbank Stock Company of Los Angeles, and she acted in other productions before she made the transition to film. She attended school in Colorado at Cutler Academy and Colorado College. While employed by Keystone Studios, Kirtley appeared in two Charlie Chaplin short comedies in 1914: ''Making a Living'' (Chaplin's first film) and ''A Film Johnnie''. Henry Lehrman
Henry Lehrman (March 30, 1881 – November 7, 1946) was an American actor, screenwriter, director and producer. Lehrman was a very prominent figure of Hollywood's silent film era, working with such cinematic pioneers as D. W. Griffith and Mack Sennett. He directed, as well as co-starred in, Charlie Chaplin's very first film, ''Making a Living''. Lehrman was notoriously careless of the safety of the actors who worked for him. He was the lover of the actress Virginia Rappe, for whose death Roscoe Arbuckle, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle (whom Lehrman had directed in about a dozen films in the early 1920s), in a highly publicized series of trials, was accused, and later acquitted, of manslaughter. Edgar Kennedy
Edgar Livingston Kennedy (April 26, 1890 – November 9, 1948) was an American comedic character actor who appeared in at least 500 films during the silent and sound eras. Professionally, he was known as "Slow Burn", owing to his ability to portray characters whose anger slowly rose in frustrating situations. In many of his roles, he used exasperated facial expressions and performed very deliberately to convey his rising anger or "burn", often rubbing his hand over his bald head and across his face in an effort to control his temper. One memorable example of his comedy technique can be seen in the 1933 Marx Brothers' film '' Duck Soup'', where he plays a sidewalk lemonade vendor who is harassed and increasingly provoked by Harpo and Chico.
