"A contraluz" (Backlight) is the sixth studio album by the Spanish female rock singer-songwriter Luz Casal, released in 1991, two years after her previous release. It is also her second album for Hispavox, her music label since 1989. This album, also produced by the Colombian Chucho Merchán, by Paco Trinidad and by herself, confirms Casal's reputation as one of the best voices in the Spanish music scene. The commercial success of this album is highly related to the film ''High Heels'', directed by Pedro Almodovar, for which two songs from this album were included in its soundtrack. Style In this album, Casal maintains the rock side of her previous releases with strong guitars and powerful drums. In some songs, such as "Tu orgullo", she even combines those with country music sounds but, in general, the ballads gain more and more space in this album. María Luz Casal Paz (; born 11 November 1958) is a Spanish pop singer. She grew up in the municipality of Boimorto, took singing, piano and ballet classes, and moved to Madrid to pursue a career as a musician. She became famous in the early 1980s, and remained an important figure in Spanish pop music all through said decade and beyond, with her sound gradually maturing towards soft adult pop. She recorded a cover version of Étienne Daho's French language song "Duel au Soleil" in Spanish called "Un nuevo día brillará", which became a hit song. High Heels (1991 Film)
''High Heels'' ( es, Tacones lejanos) is a 1991 melodrama film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar and starring Victoria Abril, Marisa Paredes and Miguel Bosé. The plot follows the fractured relationship between a self-involved mother, a famous torch singer, and her grown daughter she had abandoned as a child. The daughter, who works as a television newscaster, has married her mother's ex-lover and has befriended a female impersonator. A murder further complicates this web of relationships. The film has the feel of other mother–daughter melodramas like '' Stella Dallas'' (1937), '' Mildred Pierce'' (1945), '' Imitation of Life'' (1959) and particularly ''Autumn Sonata'' (1978), which is quoted directly in the film. Luis Miguel González Bosé (born 3 April 1956), usually known as Miguel Bosé, is a Spanish pop new wave singer and actor. Early life Bosé was born in San Fernando Hospital in Panama City, Panama, the son of Italian actress Lucia Bosè (1931–2020) and Spanish bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín. Bolero
Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''. Sau (band)
Sau was a music group from Catalonia, which rose to fame in the area in the 1990s, being among the first groups to write pop music with Catalan lyrics, known as ''rock català''. The band's two main members were Carles Sabater, singer, and Pep Sala, who played guitar and sometimes keyboard. Sabater's death following a concert in 1999 ended the band's existence.
