''A Bullet in the Head'' (french: Une balle dans la tête) is a 1990 Canadian drama film directed by Attila Bertalan. The film was selected as the Canadian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 64th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. The film centres on a soldier, wounded in war, who is struggling to survive after being trapped behind enemy lines. The film's dialogue is spoken entirely in an invented language. It was the first film ever selected as Canada's submission to the Academy Award competition for Best Foreign Language Film which was not in French, and one of just four such films overall alongside the later '' Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner'', ''Water'' and '' Eternal Spring''. Attila Bertalan is a Canadian actor and filmmaker. He is most noted for his 1990 film '' A Bullet in the Head'', which was selected as Canada's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1991."Bullet in the Head chosen for Oscar consideration". This is a list of submissions to the 64th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. ''Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner'' ( iu, ᐊᑕᓈᕐᔪᐊᑦ) is a 2001 Canadian epic film directed by Inuit filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk and produced by his company Isuma Igloolik Productions. It was the first feature film ever to be written, directed and acted entirely in the Inuktitut language. Set in the ancient past, the film retells an Inuit legend passed down through centuries of oral tradition. It revolves around the title character, whose marriage with his two wives earns him the animosity of the son of the band leader, who kills Atanarjuat's brother and forces Atanarjuat to flee by foot.
