A Brilliant Genocide
''A Brilliant Genocide'' is a 2016 documentary film produced by Atlantic Star Productions. The purpose of the film is to reveal atrocities committed against the Acholi people by the Government of Uganda, and its President Yoweri Museveni, under the guise of crushing a rebellion by Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). The film is a counterpoint to the 2012 documentary short film ''Kony 2012''. It was directed by Ebony Butler. It's brings an insight of the forgotten war, that turned out to be one of the most neglected human crisis of the modern times as described by Jan Egland. The film brings out a dimension and perspective that has not always been with most of the film's that have entirely relied on official discourses. The DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) is a film festival in Washington, D.C. The Acholi people (also spelled Acoli) are a Nilotic ethnic group of Luo peoples (also spelled Lwo), found in Magwi County in South Sudan and Northern Uganda (an area commonly referred to as Acholiland), including the districts of Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Nwoya, Lamwo, Pader and Omoro District. ''Kony 2012'' is a 2012 American short documentary film produced by ''Invisible Children'' creators Invisible Children, Inc. The film's purpose was to make Ugandan cult leader, war criminal, and ICC fugitive Joseph Kony globally known so as to have him arrested by the end of 2012. The film was released on March 5, 2012, and spread virally, and the campaign was initially supported by various celebrities. , the film has received over 103 million views and 1.3 million likes on the video-sharing website YouTube, and over 18.7 million views and over 21.8 thousand likes on Vimeo, with other views on a central Kony 2012 website operated by Invisible Children. At the time, the video was the most liked on the whole of YouTube, and is the first video ever to reach 1 million likes. The intense exposure of the video caused the Kony 2012 website to crash shortly after it began gaining widespread popularity.
