AS Salé (basketball)
Association Sportive Salé ( ar, جمعية سلا), commonly known as AS Salé, is a Moroccan basketball club from Salé. The club competes in the Division Excellence and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Notable players of the team include senior men's Moroccan national basketball team members Abderrahim Najah, Zakaria El Masbahi and Soufiane Kourdou. Salé has won the Moroccan championship 9 times and the Moroccan cup 11 times. The team won one continental title, the FIBA Africa Champions Cup which it won in 2017. Division Excellence
The Division Excellence (DEX-H) is the top professional basketball league in Morocco. Founded in 1957, the league currently consists of 16 teams. The league is administered by the Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation (FRMBB). The current defending champions are AS Salé, who have won the league seven seasons in a row. Abdelhakim Zouita
Abdelhakim Zouita (born 12 August 1986) is a Moroccan professional basketball player who currently plays for FUS Rabat of the Division Excellence. Professional career Zouita began his career in 2002 with the basketball section of Kénitra AC, and stayed there for four years. In 2008, he joined AS Salé, . After one season with RS Berkane, he joined AS Salé again in 2013. He then stayed seven season with Salé, winning five Division Excellence titles with the team. In 2020, Zouita joined FUS Rabat, and won the 2023 national championship and was also named the league's MVP. 2018–19 Africa Basketball League
The 2019 FIBA Africa Basketball League was the 33nd edition of FIBA Africa's premier club Basketball tournament and the 1st under the new format and new name. The season saw an expansion from twelve to sixteen teams. The season began on February 8, 2019, and ended on May 26, 2019, with the conclusion of the Final Four. The Final Four was hosted at the Kilamba Arena in Luanda, Angola. It was the last season of the league as the competition was replaced by the Basketball Africa League (BAL), a new competition jointly established by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA. Competition format FIBA Africa has increased the number of participating teams from twelve to sixteen. The 2017 FIBA Africa Champions Cup was the 32nd edition of the FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship, the international basketball club tournament of FIBA Africa. The 2021–22 Division Excellence was the 85th season of the Division Excellence, the highest premier basketball league in Morocco. The defending champions were AS Salé. The season started on 21 November 2021 and ended on 30 June 2022. Salé won the championship, their 9th title and their 7th in a row (not counting abandoned seasons). Fath Union Sport ( ar, اتحاد الفتح الرياضي) commonly called FUS or FUS Rabat, is a Moroccan basketball club based in Rabat. Petro De Luanda (basketball)
Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, commonly known as Petro de Luanda, is an Angolan basketball club based in Luanda. It competes at the local level, at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the Angola National Basketball Championship. Additionally, the club plays at the continental level, at the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established in 1976, the team is part of a multi-sports club which includes a football and handball team as well. 2022 BAL Season
The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals. As winners, Monastir qualified for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Format On 9 December 2021, the BAL announced a new format for the season, with an expansion of the number of total games to 38. Liz Mills is an Australian basketball coach who has coached elite level men's club, national university and national men's basketball teams in Africa since 2011, Mills is currently the head coach of ABC Fighters of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). She is the first female basketball head coach to lead a men's national team at a FIBA continental championship, as well as the first-ever female head coach in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) after debuting in 2022.
