The Happening Thang
The Happening Thang was an Australian country pop group formed in 1984 and the founding members were Andrew Travers, Catherine Wearne, Rose Pearse, Stuart Crysell and David Lennon. The band's line-up changed by the time they released their first album, The Happening Thang, in June 1989. Their second album was Saddlepop (1990), released on Trafalgar/WEA. Ted Egan
Edward Joseph Egan (born 6 July 1932) is an Australian folk musician and a former public servant who served as Administrator of the Northern Territory from 2003 to 2007. Early life Egan was born in Coburg, Victoria, moving to the Northern Territory in 1949 at the age of 16 in search of work and adventure. In his early career with the Department of Aboriginal Affairs he was mainly in the bush and engaged in jobs such as stockwork and crocodile hunting while employed as a patrol officer and reserve superintendent. Later he was a teacher at bush schools. He was a member of the first National Reconciliation Council. Egan was the sole teacher at the Newcastle Waters Station in 1965 and was stranded at the property for six weeks when the creek flooded. During this time, no supplies were able to be delivered, so Egan had to hunt for animals such as bush turkey for food. Anne Kirkpatrick
Anne Kirkpatrick (born 4 July 1952) is an Australian country music singer. She is the daughter of country singers Slim Dusty and Joy McKean. Biography She also has a brother, David Kirkpatrick, who is an accomplished singer-songwriter. The year 1964 saw the establishment of the annual Slim Dusty Australia-round tour, a journey that went on for ten months. This regular event was the subject of a feature film, ''The Slim Dusty Movie'', in 1984, which includes several performances featuring Anne Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick also features in the 2020 Australian documentary ''Slim and I''. Kirkpatrick has won Golden Guitar Awards at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 1979, 1991, and twice in 1992. The Fourth Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as the ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAS) was held on 26 March 1990 at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre in Sydney. Smoky Dawson
Smoky Dawson AM, MBE (19 March 191313 February 2008), born as Herbert Henry Brown, was an Australian Country, Western and folk performer, radio star, entertainer, and icon. He was widely touted as Australia's first singing cowboy complete with acoustic steel string guitar and yodel, in the style of American's Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Dawson had an extraordinarily long and prolific career, releasing his first single in 1941 and his last album in 2005, aged 92. Through his high-rating syndicated radio serials (at their height broadcast on 100 stations), "The Adventures of Smoky Dawson", as well as television appearances, comic books and songs he created the persona of a happy-go-lucky singing cowboy. Dawson did his own version of Wild Colonial Boy, rewriting the words and music with American country singer Glen Campbell.
