AIR Awards Of 2018
The AIR Awards of 2018 is the twelfth annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards (generally known as the AIR Awards) and was an award ceremony at Queen's Theatre Adelaide, Australia on Thursday 26 July 2017. In 2018, the Outstanding Achievement Award was introduced. The award recognises an individual or group who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the Australian Independent Music Community. In an AIR Awards first, the award for ''Best Independent Album or EP'' was a tie this year, with both Methyl Ethel and The Jungle Giants being announced as winners. Following the awards, AIR general manager, Maria Amato said "It was great to celebrate the success of the Australian Independent music sector at the 2018 AIR Awards in Adelaide last night. Queen's Theatre, Adelaide
The Queen's Theatre is a building of historic importance in Playhouse Lane, Adelaide, South Australia. It is the oldest intact theatre in mainland Australia, having originally been built in 1840, the only earlier one in Australia being the still-operational Theatre Royal in Hobart, Tasmania (completed in 1836). It was not the first theatre to open in Adelaide however; there were two earlier, less sophisticated earlier venues created in 1838–9. The Queen's original incarnation only lasted for a couple of years before a recession forced closure, and the building was turned to other uses. The New Queen's Theatre operated in the billiard room of the tavern next door between 1846 and 1850, until the Queen's refurbishment and re-opening as the Royal Victoria Theatre in 1850. Alex Lahey
Alexandra Lahey ( ) (born 30 July 1992) is an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her debut album, ''I Love You Like a Brother'' was released on 6 October 2017 and peaked at No. 15 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Early life Alex Lahey was born in 1992 in Albert Park, a suburb of Melbourne, with her mother, Vicki, her father Bill and her brother, Will. At 13-years-old, she started learning saxophone and guitar. She started university courses in both jazz and the arts but dropped out of the jazz component to join a local pop group, Animaux, on vocals and saxophone. After completing her arts degree Lahey decided to start a solo music career. All Our Exes Live in Texas is an Australian folk group, consisting of Hannah Crofts (vocals & ukulele), Georgia Mooney (vocals & mandolin), Elana Stone (vocals & accordion) and Katie Wighton (vocals & guitar). Angie McMahon is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician from Melbourne, Victoria. McMahon released her debut studio album ''Salt'' in 2019. Yirrmal
Yirrmal Marika (born 1993), known mononymous person, mononymously Yirrmal, is an Indigenous Australian vocalist. A Yolngu man, his music features traditional sounds and elements of Yolŋu languages, Yolŋu music. Early life Yirrmal Marika was born in 1993 in Yirrkala in the Rirratjingu clan and began learning music at age 11. Personal life Yirrmal's father Witiyana Marika was a singer and dancer in Yothu Yindi and is related to Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, Dr Gurrumul Yunupingu on his mother's side. Yirrmal cites his grandfather and former lead singer of Yothu Yindi, Mandawuy Yunupingu, Dr Yunupingu as his biggest influence saying "He was my inspiration since I was a kid.
