The A9 (CREL / ''Lisbon Regional Outer Circular'') is a Portuguese motorway which, as the name indicates, forms a partial outer circular route beyond the north and western parts of the Lisbon conurbation. It thereby links the Estoril coastal area with principal highways towards the north of the country. The House of the Infantado (Portuguese: ''Casa do Infantado'') was an appanage for the second eldest son of the Portuguese monarch. History The House of the Infantado was created in 1654 by King John IV of Portugal from properties and riches confiscated from the Marquis of Vila Real, supporters of House of Habsburg during the Portuguese Restoration War. It belonged to and was passed on to the second-born son of each King — i.e., the Infante that was not entitled to the crown — as his appanage. This member of the Portuguese royal family was known as the Lord of the House of the Infantado (''Senhor da Casa do Infantado'') or simply the Lord of the Infantado (''Senhor do Infantado''). Loures () is a city and a municipality in Portugal which is part of the Lisbon District, District and Lisbon Metropolitan Area, Metropolitan area of Lisbon. It is the fifth most populous municipality in the country, with a total population of 201,632. History There was early human settlement in the Loures area dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period, as evidenced by findings at the Cave of Pego do Diabo and the Cave of Salemas.
