A43 Road (Northern Ireland)
The A43 is a primary route in east Ulster. The road starts in Ballymena, goes north, to Martinstown, then crosses the Antrim Hills, and descends into Glenure. The A43 terminates along the coast by A2, in the small town of Glenure. Ballymena
Ballymena ( ; from ga, an Baile Meánach , meaning 'the middle townland') is a town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is part of the Borough of Mid and East Antrim. The town is built on land given to the Adair family by King Charles I in 1626, with a right to hold two annual fairs and a free Saturday market in perpetuity. , the Saturday market still runs. Martinstown, County Antrim
Martinstown is a small village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Located 6 miles from Ballymena, it is situated in Glenravel, locally known as "The Tenth Glen", alongside the widely known nine Glens of Antrim. It lies within the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area. It had a population of 345 people (108 households) in the 2011 Census. (2001 Census: 285 people) On 19 May 1922, the Irish Republican Army attacked Martinstown Royal Irish Constabulary barracks with gunfire and grenades, sparking a battle. They also ambushed a group of reinforcements, killing a Special Constable. Transport * Knockanally railway station (now Martinstown) opened on 5 April 1886, closed for passenger traffic on 1 October 1930 and finally closed altogether on 12 April 1937. It was on the Ballymena, Cushendall and Red Bay Railway which operated narrow gauge railway services from Ballymena to Parkmore from 1875 to 1940. Glenariff
Glenariff or Glenariffe ( or ) is a valley in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is one of the Glens of Antrim. Like other glens in that area, it was shaped during the Last Glacial Period, Ice Age by giant glaciers. It is sometimes called the 'Queen of the Glens', and is the biggest of the Glens of Antrim and visited by most tourists. The village of Waterfoot, County Antrim, Waterfoot lies on the coast at the foot of the glen. A popular tourist destination is the Glenariff Forest Park with its trails through the trees and alongside waterfalls. A2 Road (Northern Ireland)
The A2 is a major road in Northern Ireland, a considerable length of which is often referred to the Antrim Coast Road because much of it follows the scenic coastline of County Antrim; other parts of the road follow the coasts in Counties Down and Londonderry. Mainly a single lane in each direction, the road follows most of the coastline of Northern Ireland. It is connected in several places to other major roads. Route The road begins in the city of Newry, County Down and heads south-east through the fishing towns of Warrenpoint, Rostrevor and Kilkeel. After Dundrum the road continues via Ardglass to Strangford, where it uses a ferry across Strangford Lough to reach Portaferry. From there it meets the Irish Sea coast of the Ards Peninsula at Cloughey, and follows it through Portavogie, Ballyhalbert, Millisle and Donaghadee to Bangor, County Down, from where it becomes a major dual carriageway leading to Belfast.
