A2 National Women's Basketball, also known as A2 Ethniki Women's Basketball is the 2nd-tier level women's basketball league in Greece. It is organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). Each season, the top two placed teams of the league are promoted to the top-tier level Greek women's division. History The A2 National began with the 1997–98 season. The league was split into a two groups format (North-South), starting with the 2003–04 season. Greek Women's Basketball League
The Greek women's Basketball League, also known as A1 Ethniki (A1 National) Women's Basketball is the most important competition of Greek women's professional basketball. It is organised by the EOK (Hellenic Basketball Federation). It began with the 1967–68 season. The first championship of the league, which was held in the 1967–68 season, was organised by ΕΟΑΠ (Greek: ''Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Αθλοπαιδιών''). Two years later, the EOK assumed control of the competition. Iraklis Thessaloniki won the inaugural championship of the league, in the 1967–68 season. From 1976 to 1999, Sporting Athens dominated the competition, winning 20 championships in that period (they also won another championship in 2004). So far, Sporting has won the most league championships (21 in total). From 2008 to 2012, Athinaikos dominated exclusively, breaking the record of consecutive wins in the Greek Women's League. Panathinaikos AC Women's Basketball is the women's basketball department of the major Greek multi-sport club Panathinaikos A.O. The club is based in Athens, Greece. The department was founded in 1937 creating the first and oldest women's basketball team in the country. Pavlos and Thanasis Giannakopoulos Indoor Hall is the home arena of the team. G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki ( el, Γ.Σ. Ηρακλής Θεσσαλονίκης) is the women's basketball department of G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki, the Greek multi-sports club based in Thessaloniki. The club plays in A2 Ethniki (2nd tier). They have won four Greek Championships, in 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971. History G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki (Women's Basketball) was the first champion of the Greek Women's Basketball League, in 1967. Iraklis won even three championships, in 1968, 1971 and 1972. Sporting Athens women's basketball (Greek: Σπόρτιγκ Αθήνα KAE) is a Greek women's professional basketball team that is located at Ano Patissia, Athens, Greece, at the area of Elia Zervou 89 and Sarantaporou. The club's full name is A.O. Sporting Athens women's basketball. History In Greek women’s basketball, Sporting is the most successful team, having won 21 Greek Women's League championships. During the period of 1976-1999, the team won 20 championships. Another championship was won in 2004, which is the last championship of the team. Sporting's women's team has also won three Greek Women's Cups. Keratsini ( el, Κερατσίνι) is a suburb in the western part of the Piraeus regional unit, part of the Athens Urban Area. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Keratsini-Drapetsona, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Geography Keratsini is situated on the Saronic Gulf coast, northwest of Piraeus and about west of Athens city centre. The municipal unit has an area of 7.601 km2.
