Municipal Liberia won promotion to the Primera División de Costa Rica in 2001 after beating Asociación Deportiva Ramonense, Ramonense in a Promotion play-off final. They made their debut in the top tier on 29 July 2001 against Deportivo Saprissa, Saprissa.

Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño is a multi-use stadium in Liberia, Costa Rica, Liberia, Costa Rica. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home stadium of Municipal Liberia. The stadium holds 5,979 people and was built in 1970.
