A.S. Ramat Eliyahu ( he, אגודת ספורט רמת אליהו) is an Israeli football club which representing Ramat Eliyahu neighborhood in Rishon LeZion. The club currently operates junior teams, after its senior team dissolved in 2008. History The club was founded in 1984 and played in the lower leagues throughout most of its existence, winning Liga Gimel Tel Aviv division in 1988–89 and Liga Bet South B division in 1998–99. In 2000 the club merged with the fledgling Maccabi Jaffa, and although the club kept its name, its senior team moved to play in Jaffa, Tel Aviv. The merged club played in Liga Alef (which was fourth tier at the time). The club relegated at the end of the 2006–07 season and merged once more with Hapoel Ihud Bnei Jaffa to form F.C. Rishon LeZion ( he, רִאשׁוֹן לְצִיּוֹן , ''lit.'' First to Zion, Arabic: راشون لتسيون) is a city in Israel, located along the central Israeli coastal plain south of Tel Aviv. It is part of the Gush Dan metropolitan area. Liga Gimel ( he, ליגה ג', lit. ''League C'') is the fifth and bottom division of Israeli Football League, a position it has held since 2009. From Liga Alef and downwards to this, each league is separated by region as well. History Liga Gimel was first established in 1951 as a third division, below Liga Alef and Liga Bet. In 1955, after designating the first tier as Liga Leumit, Liga Gimel was demoted to the fourth tier. Further demotions followed in 1976, after the second tier Liga Artzit to the fifth tier and in 1999, after the establishment of Liga Ha'Al to the sixth tier. At the end of the 2008–09 season, Liga Artzit was scrapped and Liga Gimel was brought up back to the fifth tier. History League football started in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef with Liga Bet as the second division. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Bet resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division and Liga Bet demoted to the third division. The 1998–99 Liga Bet season saw Hapoel Hurfeish (champions of the North A division), Maccabi Hadera (champions of the North B division), Hapoel Kiryat Ono (champions of the South A division) and A.S. Ramat Eliyahu (champions of the South B division) win the title. The four clubs were placed in Liga Alef, which became the fourth tier upon the creation of the Israeli Premier League. At the bottom, Hapoel Karmiel, Beitar Tiberias, Hapoel Bu'eine (from North A division), Hapoel Ilut, Maccabi Umm al-Fahm (from North B division), Maccabi Qalansawe, Hapoel Tel Mond, Maccabi Holon (from South A division) and Beitar Beit Shemesh (from South B division) were all placed in Liga Gimel, which became the sixth tier. Jaffa
Jaffa, in Hebrew Yafo ( he, יָפוֹ, ) and in Arabic Yafa ( ar, يَافَا) and also called Japho or Joppa, the southern and oldest part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, is an ancient port city in Israel. Jaffa is known for its association with the biblical stories of Jonah, Solomon and Saint Peter as well as the mythological story of Andromeda and Perseus, and later for its oranges. 2006–07 Liga Bet
The 2006–07 Liga Bet season saw Beitar Ihud Mashhad (champions of the North A division), Ironi Sayid Umm al-Fahm (champions of the North B division), Maccabi Ironi Kfar Yona (champions of the South A division) and Maccabi Ironi Netivot (champions of the South B division) winning the title and promotion to Liga Alef. The runners-up in each division entered a promotion/relegation play-offs with the clubs ranked 12th in Liga Alef. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties.
