Società Sportiva Dilettantistica Sanremese Calcio, commonly referred to as Sanremese and officially as S.S.D. Unione Sanremo S.r.l., is an Italian association football club, based in Sanremo, Liguria. The historical U.S. Sanremese Calcio 1904 was liquidated in 2011. The present-day club was established in 2015. Currently it plays in Serie D. History From 1904 to 1987 The club was founded in 1904 as ''U.S. Sanremese 1904'', but the football team was founded only in 1911. The US Sanremese Calcio 1904 was born by the merger of the first two local teams: the ''Ausonia'' and the ''Speranza''. ''Società a responsabilità limitata'' (S.r.l. or srl) is a kind of legal corporate entity in Italy, which literally means (but is not entirely equal to) limited liability company. It has a similar form to ''società sportiva dilettantistica a responsabilità limitata'' (S.s.d a r.l.) for amateur sports-related companies and their corresponding regulations: article 90 of the Italian Law №289 of 2002. The Prima Categoria is a level of football in Italy. It is the seventh level (since 2014–15) in the Italian football league system and is organized by the National Amateur League by the Regional Committees. Each individual league winner within the Prima Categoria level progresses to their closest regional league in the Promozione level. 2011–12 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione
The 2011–12 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione season was the thirty-fourth football league season of Italian Lega Pro Seconda Divisione since its establishment in 1978, and the fourth since the renaming from Serie C to Lega Pro. It was divided into two phases: the regular season, and the playoff phase. Historically, the league was composed of 54 teams divided into three divisions of 18 teams each. This year, due to a significant reduction in qualified teams, it was decided that the league would be composed of 40 teams divided into two divisions (''gironi'') divided geographically. Lega Pro Seconda Divisione was the fourth highest football league in Italy, the lowest with a professional status. Usually it consisted of 36 teams, but in the 2011–12 season, there were 41 teams divided geographically into two divisions of 20 and 21. Group A covered northern and north-central Italy, Group B south-central and southern Italy. Until the 2007–08 season, the league was known as Serie C2. Before the 1978–79 season, there were only three professional football leagues in Italy, the third being Serie C. The Promozione (, "promotion") is the sixth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Promozione level progresses to their closest regional league in the Eccellenza level. Eccellenza
The Eccellenza (, "excellence") is the fifth level (since 2014–15) of Italian football. It is a regional league, composed of 28 divisions divided geographically. All 20 regions are represented by at least one division except for Piedmont and Aosta Valley which share 2 divisions. Veneto, Tuscany, Sicily, Emilia-Romagna and Campania also have 2 divisions each, while the regions of Lombardy and Lazio have 3 divisions. Promotion and relegation After the regular season is completed, the first-placed team for each division is automatically promoted to Serie D.
