A.S.D. Lanciano Calcio 1920 is an Italian football club. The club was renamed from A.S.D. Marcianese in 2016 as a homage to the first football club of the city, which was founded in 1920. In 2016, also saw the withdrew of the major club of the city, S.S. Virtus Lanciano 1924, from professional football. That team was a successor of another incorporation of the club, S.S. Lanciano, in 2008. History The main football club of Lanciano, has a number of re-foundations. In 2008, S.S. Virtus Lanciano 1924 was founded and obtain a permit from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) as an official successor of S.S. Lanciano, which was folded in the same year. However, due to financial problems, Virtus Lanciano also folded their first team in 2016. In the same year, a smaller club, A.S.D. Marcianese, renamed itself A.S.D. Eccellenza Abruzzo is the regional Eccellenza football division for clubs in Abruzzo, Italy. It is competed amongst 18 teams and the winner is promoted to Serie D (usually to Girone F). Lanciano
Lanciano (; nap, label= Abruzzese, Langiàne ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Chieti, part of the Abruzzo region of central Italy. It has 36,304 inhabitants as of 2011. The town is known for the first recorded Catholic Eucharistic Miracle. Lanciano is located about from the Adriatic Sea in an elevated spot. The Promozione (, "promotion") is the sixth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Promozione level progresses to their closest regional league in the Eccellenza level. Depending on each league's local rules, a number of teams each year are relegated from each league, to the 7th level of Italian football, the Prima Categoria. The Terza Categoria is the lowest level of amateur football in Italy. It is the ninth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Terza Categoria level progresses to their closest regional league in the Seconda Categoria level.
