San Gregorio Calcio is an Italian association football team based in San Gregorio di Catania. It currently plays in Promozione. It was founded in 1972 as ''Polisportiva San Gregorio''. In 1972–73 the club played in "Terza Categoria" and played its home matches at "Piano Immacolata" soccer field. In November 1974 was inaugurated a new stadium, the "Comunale" stadium in Via Vincenzo Bellini. In July 1980, the club merged with ''Massimiliana'' becoming the ''Club Calcio San gregorio''. In May 2004 San Gregorio won the ''Sicilian Cup'' in Torre Grotta. The Promozione (, "promotion") is the sixth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Promozione level progresses to their closest regional league in the Eccellenza level. Depending on each league's local rules, a number of teams each year are relegated from each league, to the 7th level of Italian football, the Prima Categoria. The Terza Categoria is the lowest level of amateur football in Italy. It is the ninth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Terza Categoria level progresses to their closest regional league in the Seconda Categoria level. Unlike all the levels above the Terza Categoria, there is no relegation.
