A.C. Mezzocorona is an Football in Italy, Italian association football club located in Mezzocorona, Trentino. Currently it plays in Promozione. History Founded in 1951 and refounded in 1967, Mezzocorona played in the amateur ties of Italian football until 2007, after finishing first in the ''Girone C'' during the Serie D 2006-07, thus winning promotion for the first time ever to Serie C2, the fourth tier of Italian football. Mezzocorona (; ''Mezacoróna'' in local dialect), is a ''Communes of Trentino, comune'' (municipality) in Trentino in the northern Italy, Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about north of the city of Trento and within of the South Tyrol, Südtirol border. Toponymy The name is thought to derive from the Italian language, Italian words ''mezzo'', meaning "middle" or "in-between", and ''corona'', which means "crown" (and is likely a reference to the shape of nearby ''Castel San Gottardo''). The Promozione (, "promotion") is the sixth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Promozione level progresses to their closest regional league in the Eccellenza level. Depending on each league's local rules, a number of teams each year are relegated from each league, to the 7th level of Italian football, the Prima Categoria. The Serie D () is the top level of semi-professional football in the country. The fourth tier of the Italian league system, the competition sits beneath the third professional league, Serie C. It is administered by the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti and is organized by the Roman ''Comitato Interregionale'' (Interregional Committee), a "league in the league" inside the LND. The 2010–11 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione season was the thirty-third football league season of Italian Lega Pro Seconda Divisione since its establishment in 1978, and the third since the renaming from Serie C to Lega Pro. It was divided into two phases: the regular season, and the playoff phase. The league is usually composed of 54 teams divided into three divisions of 18 teams each. This year, only 49 teams met the financial criteria of the league. They will be divided geographically into three divisions of 17, 16 and 16 teams. Teams will play only other teams in their own division, once at home and once away. The 17-team division teams will play 32 matches each, while the 16-team division teams will play 30 matches each.
