The 9th General Junta was the meeting of the General Junta, the parliament of the Principality of Asturias, with the membership determined by the results of the regional snap election held on 25 March 2012. The congress met for the first time on 27 April 2012. Election The 9th Asturian regional election was held on 25 March 2012, as a snap election. At the election, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) passed Asturias Forum (FAC) as the most voted party. Finally, a draw between left and right was broken by the only member of Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD) that gave back the government to the left. General Junta Of The Principality Of Asturias
The General Junta of the Principality of Asturias (in Spanish: ''Junta General del Principado de Asturias'', in Asturian: ''Xunta Xeneral del Principáu d'Asturies'') is the parliament of Asturias, an autonomous community of Spain. Its Statute of Autonomy, the basic organic law of the community, defines it as the supreme institution of representation of the Asturian people. Established in 1982, it has the name of an Asturian political institution that existed from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. The General Junta exercises the legislative power, approves the budgets of the community, and guides and controls the action of the Council of Government, the executive power, whose leader it elects as the "President of the Principality of Asturias". It also exercises all competences conferred or devolved to the autonomous communities in the Constitution of Spain and assumed by the community itself in its Statute of Autonomy and any other relevant law. Asturias Forum ( es, Foro Asturias, ast, Foru Asturies, Foro), previously known as Forum of Citizens ( es, Foro de Ciudadanos, FAC) is a regionalist political party in the Principality of Asturias. History Asturias Forum was founded in January 2011 by former Deputy Prime Minister Francisco Álvarez Cascos, who left the People's Party (PP) after failing to be selected as the party's candidate for President of the Principality of Asturias in the 2011 election. In the Asturian election, Álvarez Cascos led the party under the name "Forum of Citizens" ( es, Foro de Ciudadanos). FAC won sixteen seats, making it the largest party on the General Council. Together with the PP, FAC's gains gave the centre-right a majority in Asturias for the first time. The party has spoken to all three other parties to create a more consensual political climate. Western District is one of the three constituencies ( es, circunscripciones) represented in the General Junta of the Principality of Asturias, the regional legislature of the Principality of Asturias. The constituency currently elects six deputies.
