9 Pegasi
9 Pegasi (9 Peg) is a supergiant star in the constellation Pegasus. Its apparent magnitude is 4.35. 9 Pegasi is defined and used as an MK standard star for the spectral type G5 Ib. It is a yellow supergiant nearly two thousand times more luminous than the sun and sixty times larger. It has been reported to be slightly variable and is listed in the New Catalogue of Suspected Variable Stars with a magnitude range of 4.20 to 4.35. 9 Pegasi does not have a Bayer designation although it is brighter than several stars in Pegasus that do such as τ, φ, and σ Pegasi. It is the 9th star numbered by Flamsteed in order of right ascension. Pegasus is a constellation in the northern sky, named after the winged horse Pegasus in Greek mythology. It was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd-century astronomer Ptolemy, and is one of the 88 constellations recognised today. With an apparent magnitude varying between 2.37 and 2.45, the brightest star in Pegasus is the orange supergiant Epsilon Pegasi, also known as Enif, which marks the horse's muzzle. Tau Pegasi (τ Pegasi, abbreviated Tau Peg, τ Peg), formally named Salm , is a magnitude 4.6 star 162 light years away in the constellation of Pegasus. With about twice the mass of the Sun and thirty times as luminous, tt is a δ Scuti variable star with its brightness changing by a few hundredths of a magnitude over about an hour. John Flamsteed (19 August 1646 – 31 December 1719) was an English astronomer and the first Astronomer Royal. His main achievements were the preparation of a 3,000-star catalogue, ''Catalogus Britannicus'', and a star atlas called ''Atlas Coelestis'', both published posthumously. He also made the first recorded observations of Uranus, although he mistakenly catalogued it as a star, and he laid the foundation stone for the Royal Greenwich Observatory. Life Flamsteed was born in Denby, Derbyshire, England, the only son of Stephen Flamsteed and his first wife, Mary Spadman. The ''Atlas Coelestis'' is a star atlas published posthumously in 1729, based on observations made by the First Astronomer Royal, John Flamsteed. Sigma Pegasi
σ Pegasi, Latinised as Sigma Pegasi, is a binary star system in the northern constellation of Pegasus. With a combined apparent visual magnitude of 5.16, it is faintly visible to the naked eye. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 36.66  mas as seen from Earth, the system is located 89  light years distant from the Sun. It has a relatively high proper motion, advancing across the celestial sphere at the rate of 0.524  arcseconds per year. The primary, component A, is a yellow-white hued F-type main-sequence star with a stellar classification of F6 V. However, Frasca et al. Phi Pegasi
φ Pegasi, Latinised as Phi Pegasi, is a solitary, reddish hued star in the northern constellation of Pegasus. With an apparent visual magnitude of around 5.1, it is a faint star that can be seen with the naked eye. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 7.05 mas as seen from Earth, the system is located around 460 light years distant from the Sun. At that distance, the visual magnitude of the star is diminished by an extinction factor of 0.15 due to interstellar dust. This is an evolved red giant star with a stellar classification of M2.5 IIIb. It is a semiregular variable that ranges between magnitudes 5.11 and 5.17. Hipparcos mission photometry gives an amplitude variation of 0.0148 in magnitude with a frequency of 11.4 cycles per day.
