Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. It is owned by Blackburn Radio and airs a hot adult contemporary format branded as ''Mix 96.7''. History 710AM CJSP, Cheer Radio The station was launched in 1955 by Sun Parlor Broadcasting at 710 AM, as a daytimer with a 250-watt transmitter, using the callsign CJSP. The principal shareholders in Sun Parlour Broadcasting were Al Bruner, John Garton Sr., Lou Tomasi and Art Gadd. The station increased its power to 1,000 watts in 1960. The "SP" in the call sign stood for "Sun Parlour," a nickname for the Leamington/southern Essex County region of Ontario. CHYM-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 96.7 FM in Kitchener, Ontario. The station currently airs an adult contemporary format using its on-air brand name as ''CHYM 96.7'' and is owned by Rogers Sports & Media. CHYM's studios are at The Boardwalk, while its transmitter is on Baden Hill also known as the Baden Tower, just west of the Kitchener city limits. History The station was originally launched in 1929 as AM 645 CKCR. The station's frequency moved to 1510 in 1934. In 1949, FM sister station CKCR-FM was launched. CHVR-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 96.7 FM in Pembroke, Ontario. The station airs a country format branded as ''Pure Country 96.7''. Prior to May 28, 2019, it was branded ''Star 96.7''. History The station was originally launched on July 1, 1942 as AM 1340 CHOV by Ottawa Valley Broadcasting. In the late 1940s CHOV moved to AM 1350. In 1961, Ottawa Valley also launched CHOV-TV. Workers at CHOV unionized and labour disputes at the channel led to management closing the station and selling it to new owners. The television station was purchased by J. Conrad Lavigne in 1977, adopting the callsign CHRO and becoming part of the MCTV system in 1980. CFCB (570 kHz) is an AM radio station in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It broadcasts at a power of 10,000 watts by day and 1,000 watts at night. Owned by Stingray Group, CFCB first went on the air on October 3, 1960. The station was founded by Dr. Noel Murphy. On March 26, 2012, CFCB rebranded, which included a new slogan, logo and programming. The "Local News Now" slogan was adopted from VOCM in St. John's, which had rebranded just weeks before. The new CFCB logo also features the VOCM color scheme, which includes yellow and red. As of March 9, 2022, CFCB no longer originates any local programming from Corner Brook following the closure of its studios and termination of on-air personnel by Stingray.
