8th Field Artillery Regiment (United States)
The 8th Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army first formed in 1916. The regiment served in World War I, World War II, and Korea, and regimental units have served in Vietnam, Honduras, Panama, Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraq War, Operation Iraqi Freedom. Currently organized as a parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System, the regiment's only active component is the 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery Regiment, currently assigned to the 1st Infantry Brigade combat team, Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division (United States), 11th Airborne Division and stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. 81st Infantry Division (United States)
The 81st Readiness Division ("Wildcat") was a formation of the United States Army originally organized as the '81st Infantry Division' during World War I. After World War I, the 81st Division was allotted to the Organized Reserve as a "skeletonized" cadre division. In 1942, the division was reactivated and reorganized as the 81st Infantry Division, and service in the Pacific during World War II. After World War II, the 81st Infantry Division was allotted to the Organized Reserve (known as the United States Army Reserve after 1952) as a Class C cadre division, and stationed at Atlanta, Georgia. History 25th DIVARTY (Division Artillery) activated 1 October 1941 on Schofield Barrack, HI. 25th DIVARTY initially consisted of 3 direct support battalions from the 8th Field Artillery Regiment (8th, 64th, and 89th battalions), the 90th General Support Battalion. The 25th DIVARTY first entered combat two months after activation on 7 December 1941, when the Imperial Forces of Japan conducted a surprise attack on US military installations on Oahu, HI. 25th DIVARTY continued on active status during World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and the Global War on Terror before deactivation in 2005. Pentomic (cf. ''Greek pent(e)-'' +''-tome'' "of five parts") was a structure for infantry and airborne divisions adopted by the US Army between 1957 and 1963, in response to the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons, on future battlefields. It was intended that the five subordinate units, which were often referred to as battle groups (to distinguish them from traditional units), would be able to deploy and engage in operations more rapidly than conventional brigades, whilst also having greater offensive capabilities than conventional battalions. The 25th Infantry Division (nicknamed "Tropic Lightning") is a United States Army division based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. The division, which was activated on 1 October 1941 in Hawaii, conducts military operations primarily in the Asia-Pacific region.
