7th Sarasaviya Awards ...
The 7th Sarasaviya Awards festival (Sinhala: 7වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 1969 Sinhala cinema on March 7, 1970, at the Colombo New Theater Grounds, Sri Lanka. Minister of Education I. M. R. A. Iriyagolle was the chief guest at the awards night. The film ''Binaramalee'' won the most awards with eight including Best Film. Binaramalee
''Binaramalee'' ( si, බිනරමලී) is a 1969 Sri Lankan Sinhala drama thriller film directed and produced by Mudalinayaka Somaratne as his maiden directorial venture. It stars Swarna Kahawita and Wickrama Bogoda in lead roles along with Piyadasa Gunasekera, Shanthi Lekha and D. R. Nanayakkara with supportive roles. Music composed by Somadasa Elvitigala. It is the 200th Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. It is the first Sri Lanka film based on a radio drama, which was made by director himself as a radio drama ''Muwan Palessa''. The film received critically acclaim and became a blockbuster of that year. The film received several awards at 1970 Sarasaviya Awards ceremony including, Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director. Jeevarani Kurukulasuriya (born 2 December 1941 as ජීවරාණි කුරුකුලසූරිය) inhala, is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. One of the most popular actresses in early Sinhala cinema, she played the main role in Sri Lanka's first Sinhala color film ''Ranmuthu Duwa''. Personal life Jeevarani was born on 2 December 1941 in Aluthgama, Kalutara as the eldest of the family. Her father was Kurukulasuriyage Venus Anthony Fernando. When three years old, Jeevarani used to dance, sing lullabies, poems and do various mimics in front of parents and relatives. She completed education from Good Shepherd Convent, Colombo and Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena. She has three younger sisters - Shirani, Janaki and Menik, all are actresses. Anula Karunathilaka ( si, අනුලා කරුණාතිලක, born 23 January 1946) is a Sri Lankan film actress and theatrical performer. Her work is noted during the 70s film and cinema history in Sri Lanka. One of the most popular actresses in Sinhala cinema in 1960s, she is best known for the popular role 'Dammi' in the blockbuster film ''Golu Hadawatha''. Personal life She was born on 23 January 1946 in Wellawatte, Colombo, Sri Lanka as the second of the family. Her father, Thomas Karunatilake had a shop in Wellawatte Market. Kala Keerthi Sembuge Gamini Shelton Fonseka () (21 March 1936 - 30 September 2004 as ගාමිණී ෆොන්සේකා), was a Sri Lankan film actor, film director and politician.
