7th Regiment New York Volunteer Cavalry
The 7th New York Cavalry Regiment, the "Northern Black Horse Cavalry" and more properly designated 1st Regiment New York Mounted Rifles, was a cavalry regiment of the Union Army during the American Civil War. Service This regiment was organized at Troy, New York to serve three years. November 18, 1861, it was designated by the State authorities as the 2nd Regiment of Cavalry; by the War Department it was designated 7th N. Y. Volunteer Cavalry, under which designation it was mustered out of service, and was, therefore, so recorded. The companies were mustered in the service of the United States: * A at Salem, November 6; * B at Sandy Creek, November 6; * C, D, E, F and H at Troy, November 6; and G at Elmira, November 8, 1861. During the American Civil War, the Union, also known as the North, referred to the United States led by President Abraham Lincoln. Schuylerville () is a village in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The village is located in the northeastern part of the Town of Saratoga, east of Saratoga Springs. Mayfield is a town in Fulton County, New York, United States, northeast of Gloversville and Johnstown. The town contains a village also named Mayfield. The population of the town was 6,495 at the 2010 census. History The land that is now the town was part of the Mayfield Patent of 1770. The town was established in 1793 from the town of Caughnawaga in Montgomery County before the formation of Fulton County in 1838. It was one of the first three such towns formed. Ballston is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 11,831 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from an early settler, Eliphalet Ball, a Presbyterian minister who located there from Westchester County, New York in 1770.
