78th World Science Fiction Convention
The 78th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), also known as CoNZealand, was held on 29 July–2 August 2020. It was planned to be held at the TSB Arena and Shed 6, Intercontinental Hotel, Michael Fowler Center, in Wellington, New Zealand. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers announced in March 2020 that it would be held as a virtual convention, with no on-site attendance. Science Fiction
Science fiction (sometimes shortened to Sci-Fi or SF) is a genre of speculative fiction which typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, extraterrestrial life, sentient artificial intelligence, cybernetics, certain forms of immortality (like mind uploading), and the singularity. Max Gladstone
Max Gladstone (born May 28, 1984) is an American fantasy author. He is best known for his 2012 debut novel ''Three Parts Dead'', which is part of ''The Craft Sequence'', his urban fantasy serial ''Bookburners'', and for co-writing ''This Is How You Lose the Time War''. Gladstone is a graduate of Yale University, where he studied Chinese. He has worked in China, including as a teacher in a rural area of Anhui from 2006 to 2008, and as a translator for a car magazine. In 2013, Gladstone was a finalist for the 2012 John W. Good Omens (TV Series)
''Good Omens'' is a fantasy comedy series created and written by Neil Gaiman based on his and Terry Pratchett's 1990 novel of the same name. A six-episode coproduction between Amazon Studios and BBC Studios, the series was directed by Douglas Mackinnon, with Gaiman also serving as showrunner. Michael Sheen and David Tennant lead a large ensemble cast that also includes Adria Arjona, Miranda Richardson, Michael McKean, Jack Whitehall, Nick Offerman, Brian Cox, Mireille Enos, Jon Hamm, and Frances McDormand as the voice of God, who narrates the series. Nnedimma Nkemdili "Nnedi" Okorafor (formerly Okorafor-Mbachu; born April 8, 1974) is a Nigerian-American writer of science fiction and fantasy for both children and adults. She is best known for her ''Binti Series'' and her novels ''Who Fears Death'', '' Zahrah the Windseeker'', ''Akata Witch'', ''Akata Warrior'', ''Lagoon'' and ''Remote Control.'' ''LaGuardia'' is a four-issue Africanfuturist comic book limited series by Nigerian-American writer Nnedi Okorafor and artist Tana Ford. The series was published by Dark Horse Comics imprint Berger Books from December 2018–March 2019, when it was also reprinted in a collected trade paperback format. The series takes place in the same universe as Okorafor's ''Lagoon'' and ''Binti'' trilogy. The story was inspired by Okorafor's own experience with TSA at LaGuardia Airport. Jeannette Ng
Jeannette Ng () is a British fantasy writer best known for her 2017 novel '' Under the Pendulum Sun'', for which she won the Sydney J Bounds Award for Best Newcomer at the 2018 British Fantasy Awards. For that work, she was also the winner of the 2019 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, which, largely due to her acceptance speech, was shortly renamed thereafter to the ''Astounding'' Award for Best New Writer. ''The Expanse'' is a series of science fiction novels (and related novellas and short stories) by James S. A. Corey, the joint pen name of authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. The Hugo Award for Best Series is one of the Hugo Awards given each year for science fiction or fantasy stories published or translated into English during the previous calendar year. The award is available for series of science fiction or fantasy stories consisting of at least 3 published works totaling at least 240,000 words, with at least one work released or translated into English during the previous calendar year. A losing finalist becomes eligible again with the publication of at least two new works totaling at least 240,000 words. The Hugo Award for Best Series has been awarded annually since 2017.
