The Boeing 747 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner designed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States between 1968 and 2022. After introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet times its size, to reduce its seat cost by 30%. In 1965, Joe Sutter left the 737 development program to design the 747, the first twin-aisle airliner. In April 1966, Pan Am ordered 25 Boeing 747-100 aircraft and in late 1966, Pratt & Whitney agreed to develop the JT9D engine, a high-bypass turbofan. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant, the world's largest building by volume. "747" is a song by Swedish alternative rock band Kent. It's the final song on their album '' Isola'' and was released as third single in July 1998 with B-sides "Din skugga" and "Elever". It's been recorded both with Swedish and English lyrics. It quickly became a fan favorite, and for eight years, the band always ended their concerts with it. Name, lyrics and theme In its album version, the song is 7 minutes and 47 seconds long, almost half of that as an instrumental outro with characteristic guitar riffs and keyboard melodies. The title is not to be found in the song, and is not a reference to the Boeing 747 airplane even though the lyrics are flight-inspired: the Swedish original, which is slightly different from the English release, describes the narrator and an unidentified second character leaving or escaping something, towards an unknown destination, on a passenger airliner. The 747 is a bus service which operates between Uppingham and Leicester, largely following the A47 road. History The bus formerly ran between Leicester and Peterborough, operated by Midland Fox. The Uppingham-Peterborough section was withdrawn and replaced by the less frequent R47 service. In January 2017, Centrebus announced that the route was no longer commercially viable. However, following a campaign and a petition signed by over 1,000 people, the route continued operating after a £60,000 subsidy from two local councils that covered the cost of the route until January 2018. The 747 was an airport bus service which ran from Peterhead to Aberdeen Airport via Ellon. History The route was extended south starting on 21 January 2019 to also serve Montrose and Stonehaven, replacing the existing 107 service that operated between the two towns. The extension was added along with a new service, the 757, following public timetable consultations in September 2018. The routes were the first to use the newly opened Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. The new services operated on an hourly frequency and used Alexander Dennis Enviro200 single-decker buses. Passenger levels on services 747 and 757 were lower than expected. In August 2019, Stagecoach announced that it would withdraw service 757 completely and revise the route of the 747 to serve Balmedie.
