73 Uniform
The M69/M73 is a Soviet military uniform introduced in the late 1960s to replace the Gymnastyorka style uniforms, which had remained virtually unchanged since World War II. It was used by all branches of the Soviet Armed Forces aside from the Soviet Navy. Slightly modified in 1973, the uniform was produced in a wide variety of variants, and remained standard issue until finally replaced by the Afghanka uniform in the mid-1980s, though the uniform remained in use with some units well into the Soviet-Afghan War, as well as some second line units until after the fall of the Soviet Union. OG-107
The OG-107 was the basic work utility uniform (fatigues) of all branches of the United States Armed Forces from 1952 until its discontinuation in 1989. The designation came from the U.S. Army's coloring code "Olive Green 107" and "Olive Green 507", which were shades of dark green, the OG-107 being cotton and OG-507 polyester-cotton blend introduced in the early 1970s. Regardless of the fabric, the two shades were almost identical. The OG-107 was superseded by the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) throughout the 1980s, and was also used by several other countries, including ones that received military aid from the United States. Kirza
Kirza (russian: кирза) is a type of artificial leather based on the multi-layer textile fabric, modified by membrane-like substances, produced mainly in the Soviet Union. The surface of kirza imitates pig leather. The material is mainly used in production of military boots, where it is a cheap and effective replacement for natural leather. It is also used in production of the belts for machinery and automobiles. While some English dictionaries translate ''кирза'' as ''kersey,'' this is incorrect, as kersey is a material of natural origin known since the Middle Ages. However, kersey was used in the production of the first kirza. RIA Novosti (russian: РИА Новости), sometimes referred to as RIAN () or RIA (russian: РИА, label=none) is a Russian state-owned domestic news agency. On 9 December 2013 by a decree of Vladimir Putin it was liquidated and its assets and workforce were transferred to the newly created Rossiya Segodnya agency. On 8 April 2014 RIA Novosti was registered as part of the new agency. RIA Novosti is headquartered in Moscow. The chief editor is Anna Gavrilova. Content RIA Novosti was scheduled to be closed down in 2014; starting in March 2014, staff were informed that they had the option of transferring their contracts to Rossiya Segodnya or sign a redundancy contract. On 10 November 2014, Rossiya Segodnya launched the Sputnik multimedia platform as the international replacement of RIA Novosti and Voice of Russia. Podvorotnichok
A podvorotnichok (russian: подворотничок, lit=undercollar) is a narrow piece of white fabric formerly sewn on the inside of the collars of field uniforms in the Russian Armed Forces and some of the former Soviet republics' militaries, to reduce wear and tear on the collar and alleviate chafing (skin), chafing. Podvorotnichoks were changed daily, typically in the evening before lights out, and checked during morning inspection. If a soldier's podvorotnichok was not snow-white or sewn correctly, he could be punished and made to resew it. Since the introduction of the modern VKPO uniform, podvorotnichoks and footwraps were phased out; podvorotnichok has not been mentioned in the Russian Armed Forces uniform list since the signing of Decree 300 by Minister of Defense (Russia), Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on 22 June 2015. Military Ranks Of The Soviet Union
The military ranks of the Soviet Union were those introduced after the October Revolution of 1917. At that time the Imperial Russian Table of Ranks was abolished, as were the privileges of the pre-Soviet Russian nobility. Immediately after the Revolution, personal military ranks were abandoned in favour of a system of ''positional ranks'', which were acronyms of the full position names. For example, ''KomKor'' was an acronym of ''Corps Commander'', ''KomDiv'' was an acronym of ''Division Commander'', ''KomBrig'' stood for ''Brigade Commander'', ''KomBat'' stood for ''Battalion Commander'', and so forth. These acronyms have survived as informal position names to the present day. Personal ranks were reintroduced in 1935, and general officer ranks were restored in May 1940.
