70th San Sebastián International Film Festival
The 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival took place from 16 to 24 September 2022 in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The awards were announced on 24 September 2022, with '' The Kings of the World'' winning the Golden Shell. Background Partnering with the Málaga Film Festival, the 70th edition will feature 'Spanish Screenings XXL', a beefed up joint version of the 'Spanish Screenings' film market, hitherto showcased at Málaga. In May 2022, French actress Juliette Binoche was revealed to be the protagonist of the film's official poster as well as the recipient of a Donostia honorary career award. In June 2022, Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg was disclosed as the recipient of another Donostia Award. ''Prison 77'' ( es, Modelo 77, links=no) is a 2022 Spanish historical thriller drama film directed by Alberto Rodríguez from a screenplay co-written with Rafael Cobos which stars Miguel Herrán and Javier Gutiérrez. Set in the late 1970s in Barcelona's Modelo Prison, the plot consists of a critical revision of the so-called Transition in Spain, focusing on the plight of inmates imprisoned on common charges claiming for an amnesty that, unlike the case of fellow political prisoners, never came to pass. The film opened the 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival on 16 September 2022, to be released theatrically in Spain a week later. It scooped 16 nominations to the 37th Goya Awards, winning in five technical categories. ''Cork'' ( ca, Suro, links=no) is a 2022 Spanish rural drama film directed by Mikel Gurrea which stars Vicky Luengo and Pol López alongside Ilyass El Ouahdani. It is shot in Catalan. Plot Set in rural Catalonia, the plot follows a couple (Elena and Iván) who moves from the city to the countryside to run an inherited cork plantation, involving as outsiders in the escalating tension between local and immigrant cork workers. Cast * Vicky Luengo as Elena * Pol López as Iván * Ilyass El Ouahdani as Karim Production Gurrea's debut feature, the project was developed at the San Sebastián's Ikusmira Berriak 2016 Residency, Sources2 and the Sam Spiegel Film Lab. Petr Václav
Petr Václav (born 11 June 1967) is a Czech film director and screenwriter whose films have received many awards, both in the Czech Republic and internationally. He has lived in Paris since 2003 and holds both French and Czech citizenship. Life and works Václav was born in Prague in a family of music composer Jiří Václav (1940-2020) and film conductor Ljuba Václavová. He graduated from Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, FAMU. His short documentary ''Paní Le Murie'' (''Madame Le Murie'') of 1993 was nominated for FAMU's Student Academy Award and won a prize for best documentary at the Internationales Festival der Filmhochschulen München, Internationales Festival der Filmhochschulen (Filmschoolfest) in Munich.
