6 (BMT Rapid Transit Service)
6 was the BMT's designation for trains that used the BMT Fifth Avenue Line (labeled the Fifth Avenue–Bay Ridge Line). When numbers were assigned in 1924, 6 was assigned to trains between Sands Street (on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge) and 65th Street, via the BMT Myrtle Avenue Line, BMT Third Avenue Line, and BMT Fifth Avenue Line. Between 1931 and 1937, all service except rush hour and Saturday morning service was truncated to 36th Street, where transfer could be made to a Culver Line ( 5) train to downtown Brooklyn. On May 31, 1940, the Third Avenue and Fifth Avenue lines were closed, ending all 6 service. The 6 designation is now used for the IRT Lexington Avenue and Pelham local service. The Fifth Avenue Line, also called the Fifth Avenue Elevated or Fifth Avenue–Bay Ridge Line, was an elevated rail line in Brooklyn, New York City, United States. It ran above Hudson Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, Fifth Avenue, 38th Street, and Third Avenue from Downtown Brooklyn south to Bay Ridge. The portion on Third Avenue was called the Third Avenue Elevated to distinguish service from the elevated BMT West End Line; it was separate from the elevated IRT Third Avenue Line in Manhattan and the Bronx. Brooklyn Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/ suspension bridge in New York City, spanning the East River between the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. 65th Street Terminal (BMT Fifth Avenue Line)
The 65th Street Terminal station was a station on the demolished section of the BMT Fifth Avenue Line in Brooklyn, New York City. It was served by trains of the BMT Fifth Avenue Line, and despite the name of the line was actually located at Third Avenue and 65th Street. It had two tracks and one island platform. BMT Myrtle Avenue Line
The Myrtle Avenue Line, also called the Myrtle Avenue Elevated, is a fully elevated line of the New York City Subway as part of the BMT division. The line is the last surviving remnant of one of the original Brooklyn elevated railroads. The remnant line operates as a spur branch from the Jamaica Line to Bushwick, Ridgewood, and Middle Village, terminating at its original eastern terminal across the street from Lutheran Cemetery. 36th Street (BMT Fifth Avenue Line)
The 36th Street station was a station on the demolished section of the BMT Fifth Avenue Line in Brooklyn, New York City. It was served by trains of the BMT Culver Line and BMT Fifth Avenue Line. It had four tracks and two island platforms. The station was opened on May 29, 1890, and was the southern terminus of the Fifth Avenue Line until 1893, as well as the southernmost station to be installed along Fifth Avenue itself. Stations built beyond this point were located along Third Avenue, and the line was sometimes called the BMT Third Avenue Line south of here. The next stop to the north was 25th Street (BMT Fifth Avenue Line), 25th Street. IND Culver Line
The IND Culver Line (formerly BMT Culver Line) is a rapid transit line of the B Division of the New York City Subway, extending from Downtown Brooklyn south to Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City, United States. The local tracks of the Culver Line are served by the F service, as well as the G between Bergen Street and Church Avenue. The express tracks north of Church Avenue are used by the <F> train during rush hours in the peak direction. BMT 5
The Culver Shuttle was a New York City Subway shuttle, running along a remnant of the BMT Culver Line, most of which is now the IND Culver Line. The shuttle was originally part of the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT)'s 5 service, providing through service on the Culver Line between Coney Island and Manhattan. The 6 Lexington Avenue Local and Pelham Bay Park Express are two rapid transit services in the A Division of the New York City Subway. Their route emblems, or "bullets", are colored since they use the IRT Lexington Avenue Line in Manhattan. Local service is denoted by a (6) in a circular bullet, and express service is denoted by a in a diamond-shaped bullet. 6 trains operate local at all times between Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx and Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall in Lower Manhattan.
