67th Guards Rifle Division
The 67th Guards Rifle Division was formed as an elite infantry division of the Red Army in January, 1943, based on the 1st formation of the 304th Rifle Division, and served in that role until after the end of the Great Patriotic War. It was officially redesignated in the 65th Army of Don Front, in recognition of that division's leading role in reducing the German 6th Army during Operation Ring, the destruction of the encircled German and Romanian forces at Stalingrad. During the following months it was substantially rebuilt while moving north during the spring of the year. The division put up a very strong defense in the Battle of Kursk, facing some of the main elements of Army Group South, and then attacked through the western Ukraine after the German defeat. The Don Front was a front of the Soviet Red Army during the Second World War, which existed between September 1942 and February 1943, and was commanded during its entire existence by Konstantin Rokossovsky. The name refers to Don River, Russia. 76th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)
The 76th Infantry Division was created on 26 August 1939 together with the 23rd Infantry Division in Potsdam. History The division was annihilated in the Battle of Stalingrad and reformed by the OB West on 17 February 1943. In 1944, the 76th ID was involved in heavy fighting with Soviet troops in the Ukraine and eastern Romania. In the defensive battles for Letcani and Iaşi (German: Jassy) the 76th ID suffered heavy losses and had to withdraw across the Bahlui River. The 113th Infantry Division was an infantry division of the Wehrmacht in World War II. History The division was created on 10 December 1940 in Grafenwöhr. It participated in Operation Barbarossa and the Battle of Kiev (1941), before being sent to Serbia for anti-partisan operations. Army Group Courland (german: Heeresgruppe Kurland) was a German Army Group on the Eastern Front which was created from remnants of the Army Group North, isolated in the Courland Peninsula by the advancing Soviet Army forces during the 1944 Baltic Offensive of the Second World War.
