66th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 66th Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment in the United States Army. History For a brief period (1932-1940), the 66th Armored Regiment was designated as the 66th Infantry Regiment. The second iteration of the 66th Infantry Regiment was not descended from this organization. Lineage Constituted 10 July 1943 in the Regular Army as the 66th Infantry and assigned to the 71st Infantry Division. Activated 15 July 1943 at Camp Carson, Colorado. Inactivated 5–9 April 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. 65th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 65th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed "The Borinqueneers" during the Korean War for the original Taíno Indian name for Puerto Rico (Borinquen), is a Puerto Rican regiment of the United States Army. The regiment's motto is ''Honor et Fidelitas'', Latin for ''Honor and Fidelity''. The Army Appropriation Bill created by an act of Congress on 2 March 1899, authorized the creation of the first body of native troops in Puerto Rico. On 30 June 1901, the "Porto Rico Provisional Regiment of Infantry" was organized. On 1 July 1908, Congress incorporated the regiment into the Regular Army as the Puerto Rico Regiment of Infantry, United States Army. On 14 May 1917, the regiment was activated and additional men were assigned, with the unit being sent to serve at Panama. On 4 June 1920, the regiment was renamed 65th Infantry. 67th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 67th Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment of the United States Army during World War I. Organized in mid-1918 at Camp Sheridan, the regiment was preparing to go overseas with the 9th Division when the war ended. It was demobilized shortly thereafter. History The 67th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 5 July 1918 in the Regular Army and organized during the same month with the new 9th Division at Camp Sheridan from a cadre of the 45th Infantry Regiment. The new unit was commanded by Major Byard Sneed, who was replaced by Colonel Moor N. Falls from mid-August. Among the officers from the cadre was future novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald, who became a first lieutenant in the regiment. Assigned to the 17th Infantry Brigade together with the 45th, the regiment was brought up to strength with draftees. Although disused in modern times, heavy infantry also commonly made up the bulk of many historic armies. 66th Armor Regiment (United States)
The 66th Armor Regiment is the oldest armored unit in the United States Army, tracing its lineage to the 301st Tank Battalion which served with distinction soon after it was formed in the First World War; the 301st trained at Camp Meade, Maryland, where then Cpt. Dwight D. Eisenhower was an instructor. It has often been rumored that the 301st, the parent unit of the 66th, was first commanded by Col. George S. Patton, but this appears not to have been the case; while Patton was the first officer assigned to the Tank Corps, and while the 301st Tank Battalion was the first unit formed, Patton went nearly immediately to France to train Americans attached to Allied commands. The 301st was the only American heavy tank battalion to have seen action in the war. After the war, the 301st transitioned in the Regular Army to become the 66th Infantry Regiment (Light Tanks) by way of the 16th Tank Battalion. Fort Carson is a United States Army post located directly south of Colorado Springs in El Paso, Pueblo, Fremont, and Huerfano counties, Colorado, United States. The developed portion of Fort Carson is located near the City of Colorado Springs in El Paso County. Camp Kilmer
Located in Central New Jersey, Camp Kilmer is a former United States Army camp that was activated in June 1942 as a staging area and part of an installation of the New York Port of Embarkation. The camp was organized as part of the Army Service Forces Transportation Corps. Troops were quartered at Camp Kilmer in preparation for transport to the European Theater of Operations in World War II. Eventually, it became the largest processing center for troops heading overseas and returning from World War II, processing over 2.5 million soldiers. It officially closed in 2009. 13th Armored Division (United States)
The 13th Armored Division was an armored division of the United States Army in World War II. History and combat chronicle The division was activated on 15 October 1942 at Camp Beale, east of Marysville, California. The 13th Armored, known as the Black Cats, landed at Le Havre, France, 29 January 1945. After performing occupation duties, the Division moved to Homberg near Kassel to prepare for combat under the Third Army, 5 April. At Altenkirchen, it was attached to the XVIII Airborne Corps and prepared for the Ruhr Pocket operation. The attack jumped off at Honnef, 10 April. After crossing the river Sieg at Siegburg, the 13th pushed north to Bergisch Gladbach, then toward Duisburg and Mettmann by 18 April.
