64th Venice International Film Festival
The 64th annual Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, opened on 29 August 2007, with Joe Wright's ''Atonement'' and closed 8 September 2007. Host of the event was Italian actress Ambra Angiolini. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to American director Tim Burton. Once again all the films running the contest were shown for the first time as world premieres in keeping with the festival tradition since the Second World War. Atonement (2007 Film)
''Atonement'' is a 2007 romantic war drama film directed by Joe Wright and starring James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Romola Garai, Saoirse Ronan, and Vanessa Redgrave. It is based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Ian McEwan. The film chronicles a crime and its consequences over the course of six decades, beginning in the 1930s. It was produced for StudioCanal and filmed in England. Distributed in most of the world by Universal Studios, it was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on 7 September 2007 and in North America on 7 December 2007. ''12'' is a 2007 legal drama film by Russian director, screenwriter, producer and actor Nikita Mikhalkov. The film is a Russian-language remake of Sidney Lumet's 1957 film ''12 Angry Men'', which in turn was based on Reginald Rose's 1955 stage play, ''Twelve Angry Men'', itself based on Rose's 1954 teleplay of the latter's same name. Yasmine Kassari (born 3 October 1970) is a Moroccan film director, known for multi-layered diasporic cinema. Kassari moved to Paris as a teenager, where she graduated from high school and enrolled in a medical school.
