''63 Years On'' ( ko, 끝나지 않은 전쟁, lit=An unending war) is a 2008 South Korean documentary film about the comfort women who were enslaved by the Japanese military in stations across Asia during World War II. It showed at the 2008 Jeonju International Film Festival, and went on to win Best Documentary Feature Film at the 2nd Asia Pacific Screen Awards in 2008. Kim Dong-won (born February 24, 1955) is a South Korean documentary filmmaker. Kim is best known for his documentary films ''Repatriation'' (2004) and ''63 Years On'' (2008). Career His acclaimed documentary ''Repatriation'' (2004) documents the lives of North Korean spies who were captured in the South Korea and takes a look at their journey back to their homeland after being detained in the South's prisons for over 30 years. A labour of love that took him more than a decade to finish, it has been hailed as the most successful documentary ever in South Korea. Jan Ruff O'Herne
Jeanne Alida "Jan" Ruff-O'Herne (18 January 1923 – 19 August 2019) was a Dutch Australian of Irish ancestry and human rights activist known for campaigning internationally against war rape. During World War II, Ruff-O'Herne was forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army. After remaining silent for fifty years, Ruff-O'Herne spoke out publicly from the 1990s until her death to demand a formal apology from the Japanese government and to highlight the plight of other "comfort women". On her death, the South Australian Attorney-General noted: "her story of survival is a tribute to her strength and courage, and she will be sorely missed not only here in South Australia, but around the world." Jeonju International Film Festival
Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF, Korean: 전주국제영화제, Hanja: 全州國際映畵祭) is an Asian film festival. It was launched in 2000 as a non-competitive film festival with partial competition. It introduces independent and experimental films to focus on the alternative course of contemporary film art. In the first edition of JIFF, debut films of Darren Aronofsky were introduced to South Korea. For the first time in Asia, Jiff highlighted early works of Béla Tarr as well.
