61st NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen
The , referred to from hereon as "Kōhaku", aired on December 31, 2010 from NHK Hall in Japan. This was the last time the Kōhaku was broadcast in analog television transmission. As of July 24, 2011 the digital television switchover throughout Japan will occur, when analog signals (both terrestrial/over-the-air and satellite) will be shut off and rendered obsolete. As such, the 62nd Kōhaku (on December 31, 2011) will be the first time the Kōhaku to be broadcast entirely in digital. The 61st Kōhaku was broadcast in Hi-Vision (high definition) between 19:30 and 23:45, with a five-minute break for news between 21:25 and 21:30. known professionally as , is a pop singer, songwriter and pianist. Biography Early life Aki was born in the small town of Itano in Tokushima Prefecture, in the mostly rural island of Shikoku. Her mother is Italian American and her father is Japanese. is a Japanese enka singer, lyricist, actor and composer. Background He was born Minoru Ōno (大野 穣), in Shiriuchi, Hokkaidō, to a fisherman. He was very poor due to the effects of World War II, and was forced to work while he studied. Music career When he was about to graduate from high school, he decided to become a singer. His debut single was called "Bungacha-Bushi," which was released in 1962. He has many famous songs, including "Namida Bune" (1962), "Kyōdai Jingi" (1965), "Yosaku" (1978) and "Kita no Ryōba" (1986). His 1965 song "Kaerokana" was written by lyricist Rokusuke Ei and composer Hachidai Nakamura. is a Japanese enka singer. Her singing career spanned over four decades. She married Katsuo Yamada in 1991. Early life Kawanaka was born Kimiko Kawanaka in Yonago, Tottori. Exile (stylized as EXILE) is a 19-member Japanese boy band.
