60th (2/2nd London) Division
The 60th (2/2nd London) Division was an infantry division of the British Army raised during the First World War. It was the second line-formation of the 47th (1/2nd London) Division, and was the second of two such Territorial Force divisions formed from the surplus of London recruits in 1914. The divisional insignia was a bee. Role At first the division, headquartered at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, merely supplied the first-line Territorial divisions with drafts to replace losses through casualties. In late 1915 the division began to be equipped for field operations although it was not sent to France until July 1916, after 88 trains had conveyed the men to Southampton from camps around Warminster, Heytesbury, and Codford stations. 60th Infantry Division (Germany)
The 60th Infantry Division was formed in late 1939, from Gruppe Eberhardt, a collection of SA units that had been engaged in the capture of Danzig during the Invasion of Poland. This division was unusual in that its manpower was largely drawn from the SA and the police. History This division participated in the invasion of France (1940) as part of the 1st Army, and was in July 1940 transferred back to Poland where it was upgraded to 60th Infantry Division (motorized). During this upgrading it was reduced to two regiments (the Inf.Rgt 92 and Inf.Rgt 244) and the other regiment (Inf.Rgt 243) was reassigned. In January 1941 the division was moved to Romania and in April took part in the invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece. The was an infantry division of the Imperial Japanese Army. Its call sign was the . It was formed on 2 February 1942 at Shanghai as a security (class C) division, simultaneously with 58th and 59th Divisions. The nucleus for the formation was the 11th Independent Mixed Brigade. As a security division, the 60th Division's backbone consisted of independent infantry battalions, and it did not include an artillery regiment. Its men were drafted from Sakura. The division was permanently assigned to the 13th Army. Action Upon formation, the ''60th Division'' assumed the security duties of the 11th Independent Mixed Brigade. The division's area responsibility stretched from Shanghai to Suzhou. On 10 August 1944, the 89th Independent Mixed Brigade was split from the ''60th Division'' in Jinhua.
