6IX (radio Station)
6IX (stylised as 6iX) is a commercial radio station in Perth, Western Australia, broadcasting a classic hits and oldies format from its studios in Osborne Park. First broadcast in 1933, the station is currently owned and operated as a joint venture by Capital Radio Network and Grant Broadcasters. History 6IX was first opened on 27 November 1933 by Sir John Kirwan, the then-President of the Western Australian Legislative Council. Operated by W.A. Broadcasters Ltd, the station first broadcast on 1240 kHz AM, until 1935 when it moved to 1080 AM. In 1970 TVW enterprises bought 6IX and moved it to its studios in Tuart Hill (Dianella). In the mid-1980s it moved to 169 Hay Street East Perth where 6PR and 96FM are today broadcast from. RadioWest was a group of 11 AM stations across the Southern half of Western Australia playing 'Real Music Variety', and targeting the 35+ audience. On 15 December 2016, the network renamed itself to Triple M as part of a nationwide move by parent company SCA to bring all its radio brands into line. Austereo was an Australian mass media company based in Melbourne. It was founded in 1980 by Paul Thompson, and operated 16 radio stations in metropolitan and regional Australia under the Today Network and Triple M brands. In 2011, the company's majority shareholder Village Roadshow sold its shareholding to Southern Cross Media Group, which began trading as Southern Cross Austereo from 21 July. Sir John Waters Kirwan, KCMG (2 December 1869 – 9 September 1949) was the President of the Western Australian Legislative Council and first Federal member for Kalgoorlie in the Australian House of Representatives. Biography Early life He was born in Liverpool, England, of Irish parents. Career He did literary work in London and Dublin before coming to Australia in 1889. At first, he continued writing in Brisbane, Melbourne and South Australian newspapers but moved to Kalgoorlie in 1895, attracted by the great gold discoveries. In Kalgoorlie, he edited both the ''Western Argus'' and ''Kalgoorlie Miner'' newspapers, with the latter growing in size and importance under his editorship. In 1898, he stood for the Legislative Council seat of North-East Province and lost by 90 votes. Osborne Park, Western Australia
Osborne Park is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the local government area of the City of Stirling and City of Vincent. History Osborne Park was named after William Osborne, a butcher who owned an abattoir and land on Wanneroo Road and who was elected to the Perth Road Board (the City of Stirling's predecessor), in 1875. Osborne Park was part of an original crown grant of 6,020 acres given to T. R. C. Walters in 1840. After the death of Walters in 1874, William Osborne bought part of his estate, which included the area now known as Osborne Park.
