Cathedral Street, Dunkeld
Cathedral Street is an historic street in Dunkeld, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It connects High Street and The Cross to the east and Dunkeld Cathedral to the west. Since 1954, the National Trust for Scotland has restored eleven of its properties dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. Several of the buildings are original, having survived the 1689 Battle of Dunkeld. According to ''Parliamentary Papers'' of 1956, "these houses form a picturesque group on the approach to Dunkeld Cathedral and are of great interest as an example of street architecture of the early 18th century". Grants of £2,500 were made during 1954 and 1955. Fourteen properties on the street are now Category B listed buildings or structures, including the gates to the cathedral. Number 19, Dean's House (the original manse for the cathedral), was the home of poet and scholar Gavin Douglas (1474–1522). It was consecrated by the Bishop of Dunkeld in 1516. The house also survived an attack on Dunkeld by the ...

Dunkeld
Dunkeld (, sco, Dunkell, from gd, Dùn Chailleann, "fort of the Caledonians") is a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The location of a historic cathedral, it lies on the north bank of the River Tay, opposite Birnam. Dunkeld lies close to the geological Highland Boundary Fault, and is frequently described as the "Gateway to the Highlands" due to its position on the main road and rail lines north. Dunkeld has a railway station, Dunkeld & Birnam, on the Highland Main Line, and is about north of Perth on what is now the A9 road. The main road formerly ran through the town, however following modernisation of this road it now passes to the west of Dunkeld. Dunkeld is the location of Dunkeld Cathedral, and is considered to be a remarkably well-preserved example of a Scottish burgh of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Around twenty of the houses within Dunkeld have been restored by the National Trust for Scotland, who run a shop within the town. The Hermitage, ...

Listed Building
In the United Kingdom, a listed building or listed structure is one that has been placed on one of the four statutory lists maintained by Historic England in England, Historic Environment Scotland in Scotland, in Wales, and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency in Northern Ireland. The term has also been used in the Republic of Ireland, where buildings are protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000. The statutory term in Ireland is " protected structure". A listed building may not be demolished, extended, or altered without special permission from the local planning authority, which typically consults the relevant central government agency, particularly for significant alterations to the more notable listed buildings. In England and Wales, a national amenity society must be notified of any work to a listed building which involves any element of demolition. Exemption from secular listed building control is provided for some buildings in current use for worship, ...
