5th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron
The 5th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was last assigned to the 3d Reconnaissance Group. It was inactivated at Pomigliano Airfield, Italy on 12 September 1945. History Established in early 1942; trained under First Air Force as an observation squadron. Equipped with O-59 Grasshoppers and flew observation fights largely over Fort Campbell, Kentucky while Army units were training in ground maneuvers. Deployed to European Theater of Operations in March 1942; assigned to Eighth Air Force. Trained with RAF reconnaissance units, flying photographic reconnaissance sweeps over France and the Low Countries, obtaining intelligence information about German defenses along the channel coast. Felts Field is a public airport in the northwest United States, located northeast of downtown Spokane, in Spokane County, Washington. It is owned by Spokane City-County. The 26th Information Operations Wing is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last assignment was with United States Air Forces in Europe at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, where it was inactivated on 5 July 2006. The wing was first established during World War II as the 5th Photographic Group with Twelfth Air Force, Twelfth and Fifteenth Air Forces in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. The 26th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing operated under the direction of Strategic Air Command from 1952 until 1958. The two units were consolidated in 1965 as the 26th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing and served for the next twenty-six years with United States Air Forces Europe.
