Gaiety Theatre, Dublin
The Gaiety Theatre is a theatre on South King Street in Dublin, Ireland, off Grafton Street and close to St. Stephen's Green. It specialises in operatic and musical productions, with occasional dramatic shows. History In April 1871, the brothers John and Michael Gunn obtained a 21-year license to establish "a well-regulated theatre and therein at all times publicly to act, represent or perform any interlude, tragedy, comedy, prelude, opera, burletta, play, farce or pantomime". In favour of the Gunn's license application was that, unlike the existing theatres, they were not proposing to promote local drama which had acquired something of a reputation with the Dublin Castle administration for stirring up nationalist sentiments. Lenny Abrahamson
Leonard Ian Abrahamson (born 30 November 1966) is an Irish film and television director. He is known for directing such praised independent films as ''Adam & Paul'' (2004), ''Garage'' (2007), ''What Richard Did'' (2012), and ''Frank'' (2014), and Room (2015), all of which contributed to Abrahamson's six Irish Film and Television Awards. In 2015, he received widespread recognition for directing ''Room'', based on the novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue. ''Jindabyne'' is a 2006 Australian drama film by third time feature director Ray Lawrence and starring Gabriel Byrne, Laura Linney, Deborra-Lee Furness and John Howard. ''Jindabyne'' was filmed entirely on location in and around the Australian country town of the same name: Jindabyne, New South Wales, situated next to the Snowy Mountains. It was one of a rush of over 16 Australian cinema releases that year. Critics praised its refinement and the film is credited as a signal of Australian cinema's maturity. ''Cré na Cille'' is a 2007 Irish film directed by Robert Quinn. In the Irish language, it is an adaptation of Máirtín Ó Cadhain's 1949 novel ''Cré na Cille''. It was released outside Ireland under the English title ''Graveyard Clay''. Production ''Cré na Cille'' was filmed in various locations in Connemara, County Galway in 2006 to commemorate the centenary of Ó Cadhain's birth. Bob Quinn ( ga, Roibeard Ó Cuinn) (born Dublin, 1935) is an Irish filmmaker, writer and photographer who directed ''Poitín'' (1978), the first feature film entirely in the Irish language. His documentary work includes ''Atlantean'', a series of four documentaries about the origins of the Irish people. Quinn has a history of protesting the commercialisation of television, resigning from RTÉ in 1969 on that basis and resigning from the RTÉ Authority in 1999 to protest toy advertising.
