58th Grey Cup
The 58th Grey Cup was played on November 28, 1970, before 32,669 fans at CNE Stadium in Toronto. The Montreal Alouettes defeated the Calgary Stampeders 23–10. The 1970 Grey Cup marks the only time in CFL history that two third-place teams have met in the championship game. CNE Stadium
Canadian National Exhibition Stadium (commonly known as Exhibition Stadium or CNE Stadium) was a multi-purpose stadium that formerly stood on the Exhibition Place grounds, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Originally built for Canadian National Exhibition events, the stadium served as the home of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League, from 1959–1988, the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball from 1977– 1989, and the Toronto Blizzard of the North American Soccer League from 1979–1983. The stadium hosted the Grey Cup game 12 times over a 24-year period. In 1999, the stadium was demolished and the site was used for parking until 2006. Grey Cup Most Valuable Player
The Grey Cup's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is awarded annually since 1959 to the player of the winning team who deemed to have had the best performance in the Grey Cup Game, the Canadian Football League's championship game. 57th Grey Cup, the Canadian Football League's championship game, was played November 30, 1969, and the Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 29–11 before 33,172 fans at Montreal's Autostade. It was the first time since 19th Grey Cup, 1931, a break of 38 years, that the CFL title match would be played in Montreal. The game is the focus of the "Playing a Dangerous Game" episode in The Sports Network, TSN's 2012 documentary series ''Engraved on a Nation'' celebrating the 100th Grey Cup game. The 61st Grey Cup game was played at Toronto's CNE Stadium on November 25, 1973. The Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 22–18, before a crowd of 36,653. Garry Lefebvre
Garry Lefebvre (November 12, 1944 – March 16, 2016) was a Canadian Football League player with the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes at the wide receiver and punter positions. Professional career After being injured in high school, Lefebvre starred with the Edmonton Wildcats for three seasons before joining the Edmonton Eskimos in 1966. Playing 16 games and catching 9 passes for a 25.3 yards average and three touchdowns, he won the Dr. Beattie Martin Trophy as best rookie in the Western Conference. After two more season in Edmonton, Lefebvre was disappointed to learn he was traded to the last place Montreal Alouettes. His short 1970 season was redeemed by a Grey Cup victory, in which he caught the final touchdown. Returning to the Eskimos, he was the Dick Suderman Trophy winner for best Canadian in a Grey Cup loss to the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1973. Tom Pullen
Thomas Pullen (born January 3, 1945) is a former American football and Canadian football player. He played college football at the University of Michigan from 1965 to 1967. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, he also played professional football in the Canadian Football League for the Ottawa Rough Riders (1968–1969, 1972–1974), the Montreal Alouettes (1970–1971), and the Toronto Argonauts (1975). Early years Pullen was born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1945. He attended Glebe Collegiate Institute, a high school in Ottawa, where he played football, basketball and ran track and field. He was selected as Glebe's most outstanding football player in 1961, set records in the high jump, hurdles and sprints, and led the basketball team to the Ontario provincial finals. George Springate
George Philip Gregory Springate (May 12, 1938 – November 20, 2019) was a Canadian police officer, lawyer, politician, professional football player, professor, and citizenship judge. Life and career Born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Walter L. Springate and Eleanor Woodhouse, he received a Bachelor of Arts from Sir George Williams University. He also earned a Bachelor of Civil Law degree in 1968 and a Bachelor of Common Law degree in 1969 from McGill University. From 1958 to 1969, he was a police officer with the Montreal Police. From 1966 to 1968, he was a member of the McGill Redmen football team. In 1970, he played 11 games with and was part of the Grey Cup winning Montreal Alouettes.
