57th Berlin International Film Festival
The 57th Berlin International Film Festival was held from 8 to 18 February 2007. The opening film of this year's festival was Olivier Dahan’s '' La Vie En Rose''. ''Angel'' by François Ozon served as the closing night film. American director Paul Schrader served as the jury president at the festival. The Golden Bear was presented to the Chinese film ''Tuya's Marriage'' directed by Wang Quan'an. 224,181 tickets of the festival were sold. The festival held a ''Retrospective programme'' about women in silent era films. The films which were shown in the retrospective included a restored colour version of the 1921 film ''Hamlet'', starring Asta Nielsen, the 1914 Italian film ''Cabiria'' and '' Berlin Alexanderplatz''. Hiam Abbass
Hiam Abbass ( ar, هيام عباس, he, היאם עבאס; born 30 November 1960), also Hiyam Abbas, is a Palestinian actress and film director. Personal life Hiam Abbass was born in Nazareth, Israel, to a Muslim Arab family. She was raised in the village of Deir Hanna. Since the late 1980s, she has lived in Paris and holds French citizenship. During the filming of the Steven Spielberg film ''Munich'' (2005), Abbass lived in a hotel with the Palestinian Arab and Israeli actors for three months. During that time, they had many discussions that "helped both sides grow closer." In an interview in 2006, Abbass said, "I still remember how difficult it was for the Arab actors to manhandle the Israeli actors in the first scene where the Israeli national team is taken hostage." Joseph Cedar
Yossef (Joseph) Cedar (Hebrew: יוסף סידר; born August 31, 1968) is an Israeli film director and screenwriter. Biography Cedar was born to an Orthodox Jewish family in New York City. His father is biochemist Howard Cedar. When Joseph was 6, his family moved to Israel, and he grew up in the Bayit VeGan neighborhood in Jerusalem. He studied in a Yeshiva High School. In the Israeli army he served as a paratrooper. After graduating in philosophy and history of theatre from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he studied cinema studies at New York University. Beaufort (film)
''Beaufort'' ( he, בופור ''Bufor'') is a 2007 Israeli war film. The film was directed by Joseph Cedar and was co-written by Cedar and Ron Leshem, based on Leshem's novel of the same name. The film is about an IDF unit stationed at the isolated mountaintop Beaufort post in Southern Lebanon during the South Lebanon conflict, and their commander, Liraz Librati, who was the last commander of the Beaufort castle before the Israeli withdrawal in 2000. The film takes place in the year 2000, the year of the IDF withdrawal from the Israeli Security Zone in southern Lebanon. It chronicles the daily routine of a group of soldiers positioned at the 12th-century Crusader stronghold of Beaufort Castle, their feelings and their fears, and explores their moral dilemmas in the days preceding the withdrawal and end of the 18-year South Lebanon conflict. Ning Ying
Ning Ying (born 1959 in Beijing) is a female Chinese film director often considered a member of China's " Sixth Generation" filmmaker coterie, a group that also includes Jia Zhangke, Zhang Yuan and Wang Xiaoshuai. However, this is more a result of a shared subject matter than anything else, as chronologically, Ning is closer to the earlier Fifth Generation. Her sister, the screenwriter Ning Dai, is a frequent collaborator and the wife of fellow director Zhang Yuan. In 1997, she was a member of the jury at the 47th Berlin International Film Festival. Riina Sildos
Riina Sildos (born 21 July 1964 in Tallinn) is an Estonian film producer. Sildos was born and raise in Tallinn. After graduating from Tallinn Secondary School No. 7 (now, Tallinn English College). in 1982, she enrolled in the University of Tartu, majoring in Russian language and literature, graduating in 1987 with a dissertation on film semiotics, supervised by Professor Juri Lotman. Sildos continued postgraduate studies the same year at the university's Academy of Sciences. Sildos began her career a film critic for Eesti Rahvusringhääling (Estonian Public Broadcasting). Peace Anyiam-Osigwe MFR (previously Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima; 30 March 1969 – 9 January 2023) was a Nigerian filmmaker and entertainment executive who was called "the queen of Nollywood films".
