56th Berlin International Film Festival
The 56th Berlin International Film Festival was held from 9 to 19 February 2006. The festival opened with ''Snow Cake'' by Marc Evans. Digitally restored version of Sam Peckinpah's 1972 film ''Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid'' served as the closing film. British actress Charlotte Rampling was selected as the head of the jury. The Golden Bear was awarded to '' Grbavica: The Land of My Dreams'' directed by Jasmila Žbanić. The retrospective was dedicated to the film actresses of 1950s, titled ''Dream Girls. Film Stars in the 1950s'' was shown at the festival. More than 186,000 tickets were sold at the festival with visitors from 120 countries, including 3,800 journalists, attended the festival. ''Snow Cake'' is a 2006 British/Canadian indie romantic comedy drama film directed by Marc Evans and starring Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Hampshire and Callum Keith Rennie. It was released on 8 September 2006 in the United Kingdom. Marleen Gorris
Marleen Gorris (born 9 December 1948) is a Dutch writer and director. Gorris is known as an outspoken feminism, feminist and supporter of gay and lesbian issues which is reflected in much of her work. Her film, ''Antonia's Line,'' won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1995 making her first woman to do so in this category. Robert Altman
Robert Bernard Altman ( ; February 20, 1925 – November 20, 2006) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was a five-time nominee of the Academy Award for Best Director and is considered an enduring figure from the New Hollywood era. Altman's style of filmmaking covered many genres, but usually with a "subversive" twist which typically relied on satire and humor to express his personal views. Florian Gallenberger
Florian Gallenberger (born 23 February 1972 in Munich) is a German film director and writer. His film '' Quiero ser (I want to be...)'' was awarded the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2001. Career Gallenberger appeared in various roles in feature films, TV productions and theater plays from the age of five. Goran Paskaljević ( sr-cyr, Горан Паскаљевић; ; 22 April 1947 – 25 September 2020) was a Serbian and former Yugoslav film director. Biography Born in Belgrade, he was raised by his grandparents in Niš in southern Serbia, following the divorce of his parents. Fourteen years later he returned to Belgrade where he worked with his stepfather at the Yugoslav Film Archive. Paskaljević belonged to a group of Praška filmska škola, several Yugoslav filmmakers who studied abroad and graduated from the prestigious Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU).
