51st Military Police Battalion
The 51st Military Police Battalion is a military police battalion of the South Carolina Army National Guard. The battalion headquarters is in Florence, South Carolina with subordinate units in West Columbia and Timmonsville. History Coast artillery The Florence unit whose lineage is continued by the 51st Military Police Battalion headquarters and headquarters detachment began on 6 December 1926 as Battery A of the 263rd Coast Artillery Battalion. The battalion was redesignated as a regiment, the 263rd Coast Artillery, on 10 June 1930. A second Florence coast artillery unit, Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 263rd Coast Artillery, was organized on 15 April 1940. The descendant of the 263rd Coast Artillery, the whole regiment, itself, rather than just Batteries A and HQ, is now the 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense Command. 118th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 118th Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Army, South Carolina Army National Guard. It has served the US since the mid-nineteenth century, and is one of the few surviving US Army regiments that can trace its roots to the Confederate States Army. Its 1st Battalion (1–118) is still active and are attached to the 37th IBCT. While the 4th Battalion (4-118) is active and attached to the 30th ABCT. Troop B, 202nd Cavalry Regiment
Troop B, 202nd Cavalry was the armored cavalry reconnaissance troop of the 218th Infantry Brigade of the South Carolina Army National Guard from 1991 to 2008. It was redesignated from Troop B, 713th Cavalry, which served in the same role from 1973. Troop B, 713th Cavalry was the only unit assigned to the 713th Cavalry parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System, which carried over to the replacement United States Army Regimental System, and Troop B, 202nd Cavalry was likewise the only unit assigned to the 202nd Cavalry parent regiment under the latter. Troop B, 713th Cavalry was headquartered at Ridgeland from 1973, having been reorganized from a troop of the 196th Cavalry. The troop included Detachment 1, Troop B, 713th Cavalry at Beaufort. The 30th Infantry Division was a unit of the Army National Guard in World War I and World War II. It was nicknamed the "Old Hickory" division, in honor of President Andrew Jackson. The Germans nicknamed this division "Roosevelt's SS". The 30th Infantry Division was regarded by a team of historians led by S.L.A. Fort Stewart is a United States Army post in the U.S. state of Georgia. It lies primarily in Liberty and Bryan counties, but also extends into smaller portions of Evans, Long and Tattnall counties. The Charleston hospital strike was a two-month movement in Charleston, South Carolina that protested the unfair and unequal treatment of African American hospital workers. Protests began after twelve black employees were fired for voicing their concerns to the president of Medical College Hospital, which is now the Medical University of South Carolina. The strike was one of the last campaigns of the South Carolina in the civil rights movement, civil rights movement in South Carolina, and the first of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference since the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. the year before.
