50th Space Communications Squadron
The 50th Space Communications Squadron (50 SCS) is a squadron of the United States Space Force located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. The squadron provides command and control systems, configuration control, and systems integrations for seven Department of Defense space programs including $8.2 billion Satellite Control Network supporting $50 billion in national satellite and terrestrial systems for United States, allied, and coalition forces. The squadron operates and maintains 22 Defense Information Systems Agency nodes providing secure and unsecure voice and data communications for over 485 worldwide sites as well as over $100 million in base infrastructure supporting over 8,900 personnel. Hahn Air Base was a United States Air Force installation near Lautzenhausen in Germany for over 40 years. The 50th Network Operations Group (50 NOG) was a United States Air Force group assigned to the 50th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. 50 NOG operated the Air Force Satellite Control Network and was responsible for the 50th Space Wing's cyber and communications systems. In December 2019, the United States Space Force was established and numbers of Air Force personnel were re-assigned to the Space Force, without transferring to the new service. The 50th Operations Group was a subordinate unit of the 50th Space Wing, and assigned to Air Force Space Command from 1991-2019. The group, redesignated as Space Delta 8 on 24 Jul 2020 is stationed at Schriever Space Force Base, previously Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. The group was activated in January 1941 as the 50th Pursuit Group and began training under Third Air Force. In May 1942 it was reassigned to the Army Air Forces School of Applied Tactics, where it was a training and test unit as the 50th Fighter Group (Special).
