5000 Metres Race Walk
The 5000 metres race walk is a racewalking event. The event is competed as a track race and was part of the athletics programme for men at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics until 1993. It is also an event in the World Masters Athletics Championships, and is a World record event. Athletes must always keep in contact with the ground and the supporting leg must remain straight until the raised leg passes it. 5000 meters is 3.11 miles. World records IAAF just ratified world records for men's indoor marks. On February 14, 1995, Mikhail Shchennikov of Russia set the 5,000 m race walk world indoor record in Moscow in a time of 18:07.08. The faster all-time men's best outdoor mark is held by Hatem Ghoula of Tunisia, at 18:05.49. The all-time women's best 5,000 m race-walk mark was set outdoor and is held by Eleonora Giorgi of Italy, at 20:01.80. Hatem Ghoula
Hatem Ghoula ( ar, حاتم غولة; born 7 June 1973 in Paris, France) is a Tunisian race walker. He won four consecutive African Championships in the 20 kilometres walk from 1996 to 2002. His foremost medal was a 20 km walk bronze at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. He is also a two-time gold medallist at the All-African Games, having won in 2003 and 2007 (the latter in a Games record time). He has represented Tunisia at four Olympic Games (1996 to 2008), with his best performance of eleventh place coming in 2004. He competed at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics for eight straight editions from 1993 to 2007 and made his ninth appearance at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. Veli-Matti "Aku" Partanen (born 28 October 1991, in Lappeenranta) is a Finnish racewalker who competes mostly at the 50 kilometres race walk. Partanen's club is Lappeenrannan Urheilumiehet. Partanen competed at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, where he was 41st at 50 kilometres. At the 2014 European Championships, in Zürich, Partanen was 18th. His time was 3:52:58. Dane Alex Bird-Smith (born 15 July 1992) is an Australian racewalking athlete. He competes in the 20 kilometres race walk, and has a best of 1:19:28 hours for the distance, set in 2017. He competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he was the bronze medallist. Yusuke Suzuki (racewalker)
is a Japanese racewalker. He has represented Japan in the 20 km event twice at the World Championships in Athletics and competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is the pending world record holder for the 20 km walk with a time of 1:16:36 hours at an event in his home town of Nomi in 2015.
